Listen to some music on my ipod to pump me up. Before the first tee, I always take my time and take deep breathes to calm me down.

I listen to my iPod on the way to the tournament, and sometimes on the range. I always pray before I go out on the course, and I practice on the putting green with the exact same ball I will use in the round

Ummm ... anyone else suddenly feel old?

I try to get to the course about 2.5 hours before my round to loosen up on the range and hit a bunch of wedge shots at the end of warm-up. I work on lag putting and making shirt putts to build confidence. Just before teeing off, I play the first hole of the course on the range (driver, iron) if it's a par 4. I always finish with one extra ball with the club I'm going to hit off the first tee.

Get up early, shower and get ready, get to the course about 3 hours early, turn on the iPod and putt until they set up registration table. Then I pause the iPod go check in, get a drink and a snack, chat with friends, and then turn on the iPod again and hit the range to loosen up. My friends know that when my iPod is on that they don't talk to me, I just keep to my self and focus and prepare my mind before the tournament. Get to the first tee and then pipe one down the middle

Here's what I play:

1. Get there an hours before
2. Get a bottle of beer
3. Practice 7 iron to Wedges while drinking
4. Practice putting and finish the bottle
5. Hangout with other players

This routine always loosen me up at 1st tee.
Be aware of getting 2 or more. Good on swing but terrible on putting.

Golf: Agony & Love over 3 Generations

I get to the course about 2 hours early, get a small bucket and hit that with an 8 to a 6 to a fairway wood to a driver. Then i chip and putt for about 30 minutes while chatting with other players finding out what i am up against and find out how bad they are cheating their handicap. Then about 45 minutes before I tee off i get another small bucket and do the same thing but with pw to 7 to a 5 iron and then the driver again.

  • Head over to the practice green and putt for a bit

It took a lot of experimentation, but I think I have settled into a routine that works for me and provides desired results:
  • Wake up two hours before tee time
  • Hit Starbucks for an Iced Venti Nonfat Latte
  • Stop at the convenience store for two packs of smokes & a can of snuff
  • Once at the GC grab a Captain's & diet or three
  • Grab a cart and head to the car to gear up
  • Drive directly to the first tee
  • Warm up with ten burpees and ten push ups
  • Begin preshot routine with a farmer's blow
  • Game on

    • Option #2 because I'd add the condition that it's in a tournament. Because that'd mean I'd break par in a tournament. And I already have a hole in one.
    • Hole in one is nice, but those low rounds stick in my memory better. I have two holes in one (and a third on a pitch and putt course which I count as a half). I've shot in the 60s three times in the last 10 years or so and I remember each one pretty well. I'd take the low round.
    • Would You Rather #68: Would you rather make a hole-in-one on a perfectly struck shot, during a round where you otherwise played pretty poorly.  or  Would you rather play well all day and beat your personal best by let's say 3 strokes, but with no eagles.    I'd take option 2.   Although option 1 is always exciting, and rewarding. playing well all day is very exciting because I can also do the opposite.
    • I've got two of them.  So for me it depends. If I'm playing with friends and they know me. I'm taking the hole-in-one. Because they know my game anyway. Let's go for the awesome moment/bragging rights.  If I'm in a tournament I'm taking the low round, because I want to win.  If I'm playing with a bunch of strangers, and I just show up, and get paired up. I'm leaning toward taking the low round. I could leave them thinking I'm better than I am. Plus for me that would be a 73. ... That would be cool.
    • Hole in one is a lifetime achievement, so that.
