Definitely good for a laugh...I would pay money to see anyone get knocked out by an orangutan.

Man....I'm having to take off my glasses and wipe out the tears from my eyes after reading that story.

Thank you loads for that link.

I love hearing anything out of Boo, great story. To be honest, when I first started seeing Boo on TV on the Tour, I thought he was just a dumb hick. I'm surrounded by them, and he seemed the same. BUT, after watching him this year, I think he's just a funny guy, who happens to speak with a drawl.

I think he's great for the game, he was PUMPED for the Ryder Cup. . .the horsey move he made off the tee box was absolutely priceless. He has an awesome, awesome swing to boot. Smooth and silky. . .

Meh, cruel imo.

  • 2 years later...

I just read the reprint of this in Jan.11's issue of Golf Digest. Literally in tears laughing.

Boo Weekley Quote:

One Friday night when I was 16, a bunch of us went to the county fair. A truck pulled in there, sort of away from the midway, and we watched a guy get out and put together a big cage he had in the bed of the truck. After he got the cage together, he put up a little table. Then he went to the cab of the truck and brings out an orangutan. He starts yelling: "Five to win fifty! Who can beat the orangutan? Pay $5 to try and get $50 if you can whip him!"

We'd never seen anything like that before. We decided that one of us had to try, and I drew the short straw. Five of us put up a buck each, and I gave the guy with the truck $5. Before helping me into the boxing gloves and headgear, he made me sign a waiver. Looking back, that was a bad sign.

I got in the ring. The orangutan didn't look like much. He came up about to my chest, though his arms were as long as he was tall. When the match started, he didn't lift his arms. He kept them down at his side and used them to pivot and follow me as I circled him like Muhammad Ali. I just didn't see how I could miss. My strategy was to fake with my right hand, and when the orangutan tried to block the punch, I'd throw my left.

My buddies were going wild. "Get him, Boo! Kick his butt!" They really wanted that $50. I moved in close and faked with my right, and that's the last thing I remember. I woke up bleeding in the back of a friend's pickup. The orangutan had knocked me cold with one punch, which I didn't even see coming.

I agree. Also, is this a typical Boo Weekly story, or was he just a complete Fn moron this one time? He lucky he didn't get his face ripped off.

I know this is a 2+ year old thread, but it's still dumb. Those little tiny monkeys that are the size of your leg are stronger than humans. An orangutan is just ridiculous.

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
