Need 2 men scramble strategies

Next week, I and my buddy (13) are playing against my boss (2) & his friend (1) for 2 men scramble format at one of opponent's country club.

In fact, we had already played 3 months ago for same format and they kicked our butts as 6 & 5. I know we are underdog (as you see our HCPs), but younger (in 30s) than them (early 50s & late 40s). That doesn't meant we can out-drive them. Mostly they out-drove us by 10 yards. (i.e 200 slight uphill, 5 irons)

In this situation, how can I prepare for the match? I know it's going to be challenging but want to WIN this time. Would you share your strategies for this situation?

My biggest suggestion is that who ever is the worse putter of you and your friend should putt first to give the better putter the line for the putt, and also on par 5's have one of you lay up as this will give the 2nd player a chance to go for the green in 2, since they know if they don't get there they will have a good shot from the lay up. Good luck, and don't forget to lets us know how the match goes after it's over.

I thought one of the points of having a hcp was to even things up at times like this? Sounds like you guys are throwing hcps to the wind and just playing? You might as well have me as a partner if you're going to do that against a 1&2...

Make sure the first player keeps the ball in play, and the second player (assuming the first ball is in play) plays slightly more aggressively.

Tbh, if your off 4 and your partners off 13 your going to struggle to come close to beating them.

This is not really a strategy but an alternate format. So this may not belong in this post but I'll throw it out there anyway:

Here's a different idea but actually the way I played a Scramble once. Instead of playing in teams, play for individual scores. Individual scores? How do you do that in a scramble? Well there is 4 guys playing, right? Pair up as a team with each person for six holes. At the end you'll all have your own score. It's just a different way to do it, whe we did it we had 24 guys playing and the guy who won had only played golf a few times! He just happened to be paired with the right guy at the right time!

Why do you want to beat your boss? If you have a good reason, i up through 18 is as far as I'd push it.

I'll side with RMD. Even if I could beat him I'd still dog it coming in (unless you
don't care about your job). It's his house and his game and your paycheck. Just
yuk it up and make sure he has a good time, and you'll be VP next week. Discretion

I wouldn't be worrie about the job side, if my boss gets pissed after playing golf and wants to fire me, then maybe I want to work somewhere else anyway :D

1st golfer plays safe, 2nd more aggressive.
Worst putter putts first for the line.

I did it last time with checking out their true hcp and skill set. Now I would like to play for real. Another question. Since we know all our hcp, is there a way to adjust way of playing 2 men scramble by considering team's handicaps?

I hear about not beating your boss. But I also hear that bosses hate brown nosing. They put up with it, but recognize it and hate it. I would think a boss would be more impressed with your ability to overcome the odds, be persistant and be a winner. Sounds better than rolling over to me.

This is true. I would add, if one of you tends to be a loose cannon (you know, sometimes hitting brilliantly, sometimes hitting out into the unknown), have that player go 2nd.

Remember the talent it takes to lose...but make it look believable. Play your best and your boss will respect that. Good luck! Who doesn't love seeing underdogs win.

RESULT!!

We had the match at Ritz Carton's Creighton Farm Country Club, Built in 2008, in VA. I had played many exclusive golf courses such as Winged Foot, Torrey Pines, and more.. but the Creighton Farm C.C. is far better than any of them.

Anyway, our strategy was play aggressive and goes ahead on first few holes and pressure them. It worked. We didn't win/lose. We were tied at 18th against almost scratch players.

Since it was tied, we will play again. Wonderful experience at exquisite golf course and am happy to prove underdog can win with strategies.

It's too late for advice since the match already happened, but I think playing all out, as the underdogs, is a much better way to impress your boss than letting him win. So well done on that. Also, congrats on playing so well.
