Almost forgot this was on tomorrow and Wednesday.

I know it's a "made for TV" event, but it's interesting because there are only 4 players and you get to see every shot from every player. It's always fun to see how a round develops, and ebbs and flows.

Trevor Immelman (Masters)
Padraig Harrington (Open Championship and PGA)
Retief Goosen (2001 and 2004 U.S. Open)
Jim Furyk (2003 U.S. Open)

Not really a spoiler below. Just an easy way to condense a lot of (now irrelevant) typing. I didn't want to delete it in case anyone had the same question.

I'm still trying to figure out how Jim Furyk and Retief Goosen got in. I thought they took the most recent available winner for the slot where this year's winner is not available.

2008 U.S. Open - Tiger Woods (injured)
2007 U.S. Open - Angel Cabrera
2006 U.S. Open - Geoff Ogilvy
2005 U.S. Open - Michael Campbell

2004 U.S. Open - Retief Goosen
2003 U.S. Open - Jim Furyk

2008 PGA - Pardaig Harrington (already in British Open slot)
2007 PGA - Tiger Woods (injured)
2006 PGA - Tiger Woods (injured)
2005 PGA - Phil Mickelson (declined???)
2004 PGA - Vijay Singh (injured)
2003 PGA - Shaun Micheel

Or if Padraig Harrington was assigned the PGA spot, leaving the British Open spot available:

2008 Open - Pardaig Harrington (already in PGA slot)
2007 Open - Pardaig Harrington (already in PGA slot)
2006 Open - Tiger Woods (injured)
2005 Open - Tiger Woods (injured)
2004 Open - Todd Hamilton

Either way, why are Goosen and Furyk the alternates instead of Cabrera, Ogilvy, Campbell, Micheel, or Hamilton?

EDIT: Aww crap. After all that typing, I found that it's a points list based on finishing positions in each of the 4 majors this year and the first alternate (Mickelson) declined. Goosen was the second alternate, and Furyk was the third alternate.

That was pretty fun to watch. Glad to see Immelman get that eagle on a par 4, he was really struggling.

    • Shot 50/41 today. I didn't hit the ball particularly well but not as poorly as the score would indicate. I just happened to hit it in some really punishing places that wound up taking one or two strokes just to hit back into play. The undergrowth and the fescue are really growing in at the course. Lipped out and burned a few edges on putts, too. I always say when I miss putts by that small a margin that they're eventually going to drop as long as I don't deviate from the process and that's exactly what started happening on the back 9. I ended up making a couple of mid-length putts. Five over on the back included a triple bogey on 17.
    • Birdied the par 5 #14 at Quail Brook GC. Hit a high draw 3W just short of the green on my second shot, chipped just right of the back right flag to about 12' and made the putt. It's starting to look like I'm going to get at least 20 rounds at Quail Brook for it to qualify as my home course but I've been adding the birdies there to my away composite for so long that I don't feel like separating it all now. So the away composite will simply be an aggregate of all my birdie holes for the year.

    • Day 1 - First chipping and pitching. Focus on a better grip, the fundamentals and taking the club back on plane, not outside. Feels good. Then some full swings. Focus on improving the setup. Weight more forward, more bent over, and same grip stuff.
    • Congrats on the improvement. Cheers for lots of continued improvement in the future. IMO you've gotta get away from these spots… Those are partly "results" as the work will begin on things earlier in the swing. Good luck.
