john got suspended from the pga tour. i didn't think he was even on the tour anymore.

It means he cannot get sponsor exemptions, Monday qualify, or play on past champion status - or any other way of getting into PGA Tour tournaments.

Does that mean Euro PGA Tour also?

Probably not. In fact, that may well be where he goes. Of course, they're free to suspend him too.

I wonder how it affects jointly hosted events (WGC, for example) or events not hosted by the tour (Majors). But I don't believe he's getting into any of these, so it doesn't really matter.

Sorry for being slow to follow this, but what was the basis for the PGA to rule that JD can't play any reindeer games this year? They don't like the fact that he fell asleep drunk at Hooters? That's retarded. It's not like he shot himself in the leg with a handgun at a strip club, for god's sake. How do you ban someone from a tour that they're not on, anyway? Sorry, Madonna, you can't play golf in the PGA, either. And all you rappers, forget it. In fact, anyone who doesn't know how to use the little fork better just stay home. All you drunk guys at the country club, you can forget it too -- oh wait, you're our sponsors.

It would have been a lot classier if the PGA did an intervention on John and put him up at Promises for 6 months free of charge.

Ha! While I agree with you on pretty much all of this post, the PGA is just trying to avoid any negative images like people shooting themselves in strip clubs. Professional sports organizations all across the board are trying to promote a squeaky clean image. While I think we can all agree the PGA is probably the one that needs to be least concerned with it's image, it's just a sign of the times I guess and JD is the saccrificial lamb in this instance.

Should be good for him, maybe he might appreciate the free entries he's given in the US (looks like he is thinking about that from the few articles I've read lately).

Sucks for me though, was planning on following him around a little for the first 2 rounds at the Transitions Optical (March, Florida Swing) this year.

I wish him well in 2009.

It's good for us Europeans though and there are no Hooters bars here, as far as I'm aware!

We look forward to Big John playing over here this year.

It's six months, not the full year (although it will undoubtedly affect whether he is likely to make the Playoffs). It's for a continued pattern of behavior, not for any individual item.

How do you ban someone from a tour that they're not on, anyway? Sorry, Madonna, you can't play golf in the PGA, either. And all you rappers, forget it.

It prevents him from attempting to Monday qualify or taking sponsor exemptions.

It would have been a lot classier if the PGA did an intervention on John and put him up at Promises for 6 months free of charge.

Would this be because their previous attempts at intervention on John were so successful, or would it be because John can't afford 6 months at rehab? (I'm guessing that's what Promises is).

(apologies if this gets posted twice - I hit "submit" and it said the server wasn't responding, so I'm trying again after checking that it didn't appear to be there)

At this point I have pretty much given up on Daly. He doesn't seem to take anything seriously. Him having Gruden on the bag was ridiculous. Its the PGA tour not a circus.

John Huston had his teenage son on the bag at last years PODS Championship, he made the cut and finished well. He was carrying a stand bag.

I had no problem with it. As I had no problem with Gruden carrying JD's luggage.

I agree with you. I think it was a fun move. By the way, Big John will have lots of company on the Euro Tour--Anthony Kim, Boo Weekley, Camillo Villegas, and Trevor Immelman, all of whom will be members of both tours.

The guy is a non-issue. He is not a factor in tournaments anymore, and truthfully he is not that much of a draw anymore. He has virtually played his way off of the tour in recent years, and eventually the sponsor's exemptions would go away as his popularity decreases. The guy is a complete idiot, and has proven this to be true over and over. The fact that some of you are "pulling" for him, is ridiculous. Forget about him, he's done. People need to stop talking about him, and he will just go home.
Maybe he is a nice guy, whatever. There are a lot of nice guys in the world. Most of them don't get 500 chances to clean up their acts, and millions of dollars thrown at them to pi** away over and over.
Ridiculous.

Are you talking about investment bankers and wall street types? At least JD has not stolen 100's of billions (or a few trillion) from our country from deception over the years, he admits that if he didn't have golf talent he would definitely have a blue collar job. Plus he's divorced (obviously more than once), so he has something in common with 50% of us guys. All I know is that he took some pictures with my 3 boys and was very nice when he was chatting and taking pictures with them a few months ago, he's not an azzhole. I wish him the best.

I for one like having fat guys with funny swings on the tour. Not everyone has to be a PGA drone with a Leadbetter swing and carefully cultivated politically-correct soundbites to offer the cameras so as not to offend the money men. Be nice if JD could stop drinking and get his act back together, but it is what it is for now. How many other guys get to horrify you with You Tube videos of them playing shirtless and barefoot in shorts? And not to be jerk, but there's nothing wrong with having a few too many at Hooters -- those waitresses have been known to hypnotize an innocent tourist or two. And there is a Hooters Tour, after all; if one was feeling charitable one could say JD was simply showing his support for a corporate sponsor.

I really like John Daly he is beer/whiskey guy who can hit it. The tour hates players like him because he doesn't fit their mode, greed. If Tiger wanted to play bare foot and in shorts they would change the rules. Just my two cents.

I totaly agree with you. He has had some troubles as most of us, but the guy has a heart bigger than the world. That my friends is worth more than all the green jackets in the world.

I wish I could remember who was talking about him on the Golf Channel the other day, but someone asked a player who his favorite player was and he said JD. They asked him why? He said he was at a tournament and JD walked up in his bare feet, he asked JD where his shoes were, JD said a fan wanted them so he give them to them

Like they said, despite what you think of his choices he is a good man and nobody can take that away. I'm rootin' for ya JD.

Are you kidding me?

First of all...How in the world do you know he has a heart bigger than the world? Because someone told you that he does? Because you heard it on The Golf Channel? I'm so sick of hearing this all of the time from people. What has he done, to make him SUCH a great guy? Gimme something good here. Something that most of the other players don't already do also. Why is it that you think we've all had similar troubles in our lives? I've never lost most of my net worth in casinos. I gamble within my means. I've never torn up hotel rooms, or busted up my hands punching walls while fighting with my wife. I'm not an alcoholic, that refuses to man up and fix my situation. I guess I just don't get the whole John Daly sympathy campaign. And to top it all off, the guy can't play anymore. If you guys want to feel bad for a guy that chose his own path, and pi**ed all over it......good luck to you.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
