Whats the most nervous you've ever been?

What was the most nerve-wracking scenario you've ever faced on the golf course? Facing a 5 footer to win a $100 bet? One shot lead on the 18th tee to win a tournament? Chased down the fairway by a bear?

For me, it was in a million dollar hole-in-one contest. I made an ace in qualifying (top 40 made the final) so I hit 39th out of 40. About 300 people watching and a tv camera recording the 165 yard shot. My head said "nothing but the bottom of the cup", but my body said "don't make an ass of yourself". I have never been so nervous in all my life. Happily, I didn't make an ass of myself, but sadly, I didn't make an ace. Hit it to 14 feet and finished fourth winning a driving range membership.

I was very nervous the first year I tried out for the golf team. I'd gotten into shooting in the 70s or very low 80s at my then home course. The course we played in HS (still my home course in my sig) is significantly tougher. But afer a few days I calmed down and realized I'd make the team.

My senior year we went to the district (there were 5 in PA at the time, IIRC) tournament. I came to the 18th hole thinking I'd just shot 90. My scoring average for the year was something like 75... anyway, I bogeyed and figured I'd shot 90... but it was a par 71, so I really shot 89. But whatever - everything went badly that day - I doubled the first hole after a decent tee shot. I had a lot of pressure on myself - our team had won three consecutive county championships, I'd been all-county, I'd won Junior EDGA that summer, etc. Pace of play pissed me off (dreadfully slow), etc. Good weather, but I couldn't get anything going.

Barely made the cut, was dead last, went out first, played in a threesome in 3 hours, shot 71, and went to states. Go figure.

I don't know what it is, but emotion just takes over. It's not like a flub all my drives, it's just the juices flowing I guess.

The most nervous I have ever been was standing on 18 tee box being 1 under knowing I could possibly shoot under par for the first time. I was playing with a club pro friend of mine (and beating him for the first time too) and two other buddies. Water up the entire left side of the hole I hit a great 3 wood, but hit my second shot over the green. I chipped up and made the 5 footer for par. Great feeling!

Must have worked for you. You shot, what, a gross +1 playing off a 10 handicap at a course you'd never seen before?

Yeah, that first hole was something, too. What was it, a 640-yard uphill par 5??

im a teenager and not yet trying out for the golf team(next year) so that will probably be the most nervewracking, but right now i get nervous when me and my friend are playing and its a jampacked day, so we have to join another twosome. that happens every once in awhile and i get sooo nervous the first hole when playing with a different group whom ive never met. but after the first hole i calm down and it all goes good..

Well I started playing golf my freshman year of college with some buds... who convinced me to join the golf team the following year. Luck would have it that midway through the season half the team could not go to this really big D1 tournament (we're DIII) at this huge 7200 yd course and I was asked to go. That whole weekend I struggled not to make a complete a$$ of myself and I dont think I succeeded. It kinda sucked because I was paired with this guy from Gardner Webb the first day who could hit the ball like 300 with his 1 iron and i kid you not about 360 with his driver. I felt like I was playing against MJ in basketball.

For me it was June 24 of last summer, hadn't been playing serious golf that long and was trying out for the junior inter-club team for my course. I remember warming up before that, I was so pumped with adrenaline that I was hitting pitching wedges to my normal 8 iron yardages, just unreal distance. Then when it was my turn to tee off... straight hosel about 30 yards. I made the team, near the bottom though.

My goal for this year is to captain the team.

Torrey Pines south course.The Mrs and I are going off the #1 tee and the clubhouse is right behind it and it has a rooftop veranda so that everyone is looking down on you as you tee off.If they sneeze you get wet!!Yes I nailed a dead center 280 yd bomb and got a round of applause.And yes I skulled my 9 iron second over the green into oblivion and the Mrs.gave me a standing "O"
