Fairway woods do not seem to have changed. I have two different fairway woods : Low profile/shallow face and rounded body (less shallow face-older Clevelands).

What is the advantage of standard versus shallow faced FWs?

Dymo 3W

I think shallow faced fairway woods are supposed to inspire more confidence when hitting off the deck. (How daunting does a 460cc driver look when you address the ball on the fairway lol)

i absolutely LOVE my Sonartec GS Tour fairway woods. and walfice is right, they do inspire more confidence (for me anyway) when hitting off the deck. before i switched to the Sonartec's I was using Callaway Fusion and Bridgestone J33 fw woods. these Sonartecs are money. the best fairway woods I have ever hit by far....

Like the above poster said they are easier to hit off the deck. Also they are generally harder to hit and more workable(at least thats my experience). I play a shallow faced 3 wood.

i have a nike sasquatch 3wood, and an adams ovation tight lies 5wood. i love both and they are both different styles, however the tight lies and its low profile makes it easier to get the ball in the air although i sacrifice some distance.

I will either use my Cobra 3w or my Cobra Hybrid 3 Baffler.. and other than the degree of loft, the faces between the two are really not that much different in size..as Walfice said, anything larger than that at address is a bit daunting.

I recently ditched my Callaway X-Hot 3-Wood and Ping G5 5-Wood in favor of a used Sonartec NP-99 4-Wood. I absolutely love the way it feels and launches the ball, and it frees up a spot in my bag for another wedge.

use the ones in my sig line......fairly low profile.......I just concentrate on maintaining head position throughout the swing.....swinging around an axis....and things generally work out to the good.

Very solid clubs. Nasty shafts....love 'em.
