im getting the taylormade r7s for christmas. the set comes with a 45* PW and a 50* GW. i want to get two more wedges to finish off the set. a 55* wedge with a 60* woud be ideal, but i cant find any 55*. so, what degree wedges would be best to finish off my set? i was thinking maybe 56* and 60* or 54* and 58*. any opinions?

Get a wedge bent.
Bend a 54 to a 55.

you actually have several options... one, you can get an r7 SW, which is 55* loft. second, you can get a 54 or 56 degree SW and have it bent to 55*. third, you can get opt for the second option and just live with a 1* uneven gap between your GW and LW.

Bending is probaby not necessary. A 54* might be a better choice anyway, because my own findings are that traditional forged wedges are not as long as most irons in sets anyway (of same loft). I'm not sure why (maybe spin, maybe the way the clubs are weighted with forged wedges typically having a heavier hosel). The point of this is that the 1* of stronger loft in a 54* might compensate for that difference somewhat, resulting in a similar yardage gap as with other clubs in set. Personally, I would go with a 54 and 58 unless you are buying wedges that are identical to your iron set.

I hate my lob wedge (58*). I'm never going to get a lob wedge again. If I were you I'd just get a 56* and that's it. In my honest opinion you don't need 4 wedges.

Ironically, I find the opposite to be true. My experience has been that a cavity back sandwedge actually goes less distance due to balooning (loft and shaft length being equal). And I also find that a traditional wedge, which will almost certainly come with a True Temper Dynamic Gold or some type of shaft like it, will launch on a lower angle and thus give a tad more distance. This seems especially true when compared to the often lighter and lower kick shafts that are usually put in GI/SGI irons stock off the shelf. But I suppose it all depends on your swing dynamics.

IMHO I'd go with a 54 or 56 and do the bending. It will take about 2 minutes and cost around $5. But don't forget to get your wedge bounce specs to fit your game and course conditions. These will affect the playability of the wedge more than the actually lofts and distances, which can be tweeked as you find your distances with your new clubs. Good Luck!

Woops, I forgot to mention the 60*.

So yeah I'd say 54/60 or 56/60 and bend the sandwedge if you need to.

For what it's worth, I have the same loft PW and GW as you and I went with the 56/60 SW/LW combo.

I figure if you can hit the 60* well, go for it. A 60* is particularly usefull, IMO. Im not very well versed on bending, but from what I hear, seems fine.

Get a wedge bent.

Probably the best idea

I also agree with the bending idea...either 54 or 56 bent to a 55 should be fine. Just watch out with bounce. When you increase loft, bounce is added; when you decrease loft, bounce is also decreased. I'm pretty sure it a 1:1 ratio in terms of loft to bounce change.
As for the 60, I like the idea. It's a cool club to have and can be useful.
Bending clubs should take a few minutes and cost around $5.

ok, i just want to say that im slightly anal about about certain things, and having a wedge that says 54* or 56* on the club head but have it actually be 55* would bug the hell out of me... not sure of i could take it

also, i was looking at taylormade's website and it does indeed say that the r7 sw has 55* loft. however, i look at rockbottomgolf and they have an r7 sw for sale ( http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/taylor...-r7-wedge.html ) and it says that its 56* loft? whose right?
