oooh, thats one thing i hate about golfwrx, and thats why i like it here better... how do you know who the mods are here? do they have titles under their names or signatures like they do at wrx? i havent noticed any, which seems odd to me....

Just go to the home page and click on "staff" - they are also posters on the forum. On a closed thread, one of their names will appear as the last poster and after stating their peace, they will say something to the effect that the thread has been closed.

I think we can have sub-forums based on where we are.

We've discussed this already, and the conclusion is that such forums would be useless. Even if we narrowed it down to the 50 states and had a forum for each, people can be eight hours away from someone else in the same state (or 30 minutes from people in two different states). There's no logical way to group the forums so that people could

Third, I would really like to see the SEARCH function "beefed up".

That's more a complaint for the vBulletin people. Not much we can do about that. I'd love to do what you're asking too. And I'm sure you know about the advanced search:

Right... so a theoretical thread in which people are way off-topic and/or being sexist, racist, and swearing should be kept open simply because a lot of people are stopping by to watch (or participate in) the fireworks?

No.
This is just a thought but I think it would be cool if the message board has a

We pride ourselves on keeping this forum pretty much spam-free. A section like the one your proposing would be an awfully sweet attraction to spammers. We already devote 15 minutes a day doing nothing but dealing with spam on the site. I'd prefer not to see that bumped to 30 or 45. I have a daughter and a wife I enjoy spending time with as well.

Ya, that's what I was talking about. Under our name and location etc. on the left side of the screen, there used to be little Blue "chiclets" for a persons reputation. I know you can go way out of your way and find out what a persons reputation is, but it was way easier when your reputation "power" was displayed right there under your name.

well, i've seen threads and posts closed or deleted for the wrong reasons too where none of the above was going on.... it all boils down to what the 10 or so Mods think would be best for this site, NOT what the thousands of members think. its their site, not ours

The display of someone's reputation was taken away because people getting way too bent out of shape about it. You only really need to care if you're below 5 or below 0. 99+% of the site is above 5, so it's irrelevant.

Edit: By "irrelevant" I don't mean useless. It still helps with the Marketplace and it still helps to identify the few individuals with negative reputation. If it were completely useless, I'd remove it.

I looked at the other forums, and didn't like them. When I found this one, I was happy and joined.

Keep up the good work, and keep the info flowing!

I like this forum cause theres not real strict rules

i posted a few threads on golfwrx and i put links in it, and they deleted all my threads and said something to the affect of

"your sales pitch, if thats what this is, is not welcomed, read the rules and post again"

all i did was post a link to a site but apparently you cant help ppl find good products?

one thing i dont know if it would be a good thing or not but, some forums have like a lil chat feature?? used to have one on a ford explorer forum i was on and ppl were in that all the time

What I would change about the site is people putting their threads in the proper forum, i.e. this one.

It looks like the powers that be have decided this is in the correct place or it would have been moved long ago.

Try that here. It's pretty much frowned upon on most sites, even this one.

I have made posts that mentioned within it the "R" word and I've had the whole post deleted. How did this remain?

If you get people saying moderation is too tight, and others saying it is too lax, then the answer is probably that it's just right! I think this place strikes a good balance - there's freedom but not anarchy.

I don't agree. The people saying it is too tight are likely the ones who don't share the opinions of the establishment and have their posts deleted or modified, or have others come down on them because their ideas are not agreeable with the majority. The ones saying it is too lax are the ones who don't want alternate ideas being put out there for people to see. (My opinion, of course). You have to have differing opinions and ideas, or what's the point of a forum? To have a bunch of people agreeing with everyone all the time? That's a lot of fun.

I agree that the threads in this forum can be very informative. But I also agree that if you don't agree with the majority (or certain people) that you better be prepared to feel the wrath. Good thing I have large enough shoulders because I have felt it from time to time. I think the mods could be a little more lax about a thread going off-topic a little bit from time to time. Most of the time the members can get it back on topic without getting a hand slap from the top. If the non-mod members can't get a thread back on track then that's a problem of it's own. I've been on forums where the topic strays and others will call it out and wham! it's back on topic. That can't happen here? Getting off topic in my opinion is a sign of people enjoying themselves on a forum. (I'll probably get shown that that is not the case, but it's still an opinion of mine that won't change). There's a lot of good things about this forum. But like anyplace, there's bad stuff too. No place is perfect, and people should be open to ideas on how to changethings for the better, not always have the my way or the highway thoughts. I must say, however, that I am impressed that this thread was allowed to go on and people were allowed to share their thoughts, without repercussion as well, it seems. This is what a forum is all about, and it's a breath of fresh air that it was allowed to remain. Thanks for that.

The biggest problem I have with this site is the 3 or 4 un-named posters who seem to always rub me the wrong way no matter what the threads are about. They have a certain attitude that comes over in print. But isn't that true of everyday life? So in that sense I'd say major kudos to the forum and its admin. It seems you have a truly representative sample of serious golfers. I'm sure I'm in some other's group or 3 or 4 that rub them wrong. It seems to me that without that push and pull dynamic we wouldn't be able to hash out our differences. I'm also sure that it's tough as an administrator to strike a balance in how far to let the arguments go.

I'm also glad I'm seeing less posts that go like this..."I can't spin the ball with a wedge." I'm glad those are either not coming in as often, or maybe they are being nipped in the bud by admin.

I really like the site, think its well run and well organised, if I was to criticize anything it would be that some forum members seem to cross the line between friendly debate and heated argument, this is only a minority of posters however. This line seems to be crossed if an England/Europe vs America topic comes up, but hey, we are all guilty of it in some way or another (I know I am far from perfect).

Posts getting deleted for no reason. It seems if certain people make a post that shows them in a bad light it will be deleted, and all posts disagreeing with his point of view get deleted also. Luckily though these posts are up long enough that people know about it and see that the posts are missing. Doesn't seem to me the wayto do it. I feel that if you can come down on others for their posts you should have broad enough shoulders to take it when you make a post that others think is out of line as well.
