nice classic waggle! seems to be a ghost of a forward press ala' "the earlier ben".

Seems like the ball is way forward in your stance for a 7 iron shot... it could be the angle of the camera...

You seem to start the backswing movement with your hands, not your shoulders/hips. Looks like a wrist cocking move more than a one-piece takeaway.

And I see a little "bouncing" move when you impact the ball... which could lessen the effect of your hip rotation and rob distance to your shot.

But, hey, with your handicap, what the hell do I know...

Please don´t swing while I´m talking !!

It's just the camera angle, I thought about this too, but then I kindof rotated my perspective and it looked in the middle.

Btw thank you so much for making your video actually view-able. People put videos from cell phones and it looks so horrible.

that was nicklaus' fault too, playing all his shots in the front of his stance. probably could have won 25 majors if he played the ball back

It could have given him 25 or 2. All i know is that he played so well he was probably smart to not change his swing. Just something to think about.

Yeah, the camera angle is a hair off. That being said, I do have a tendancy to play the ball forward in my stance. When students ask about proper ball position, I tell them to take a few practice swings and to take not of where their swing arc bottoms out, and that's the point where they should play the ball. The natural bottom of my swing is more towards my front foot, so, that's why I play the ball there.

The only thing I'd change is the takeaway. I'd turn it into a one-piece takeaway, rather than that move you do, because it can make the club get stuck behind you, and then you'll lose a lot of consitency and control over the golf ball.

But, since you are a +1.5 handiccaper, why should you listen to me anyway? lol. I think you've done a very good job...

I didn't notice it so much with the 7-iron, but with the 2h, you seemed to cock your wrists a little early. I could be wrong, but it just stood out to me. Other than that, it looks pretty sweet.

The ball position with the 7-iron confused me as well, but you put that to rest.

I was actually just really lazy by that point. I'd hit 2 and a half buckets over a 4 hour period and I wasn't really putting a good swing on it.

A couple of people have commented on Ben's ball position with the 7-iron. While the ball position has been debated on other threads, this seems a good place to point out the other Ben's ball position:

I hope this links. If it doesn't, the URL is right below:

Ben's ball position isn't center of his stance, for either Ben. So, while it makes the ball look forward, and might look more forward than it is (I don't know much about cameras or camera angles), it is probably in the right position for him.

Did all the guys saying "wow looks like you start with your hands" actually pause and play pause and play the vid to get a photo like view of the swing I definetly seen a GREAT swing right there and I love how you keep your head still and remain still even after impact honestly I cant see anything "bad" about this swing period!! And to all the people saying put the ball further back maybe they should try to scoot it up a bit and see what it does to there ball striking/distance... a little hint height = more carry and more carry = more distance

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
