I have been wanting a D2 ever since they come out and today I finally got on a launch monitor. With the Voodoo shaft my ball speed was 134.5 and the club speed was 96.6 with a launch of 12.8 degrees.(Also backspin was 5090) With the diamana shaft my ball speed was 134.1 and club speed was 95.5 with a launch of 12.8 as well(backspin was 4844)

So my question is which is better suited for my swing?

Of those two the Diamana seems a little better because of the fact that you are producing the same ball speed with slightly less clubhead speed. However, both of those spin numbers are fairly high. Were you testing them with regular or stiff shafts? If they were regular, I would suggest trying the stiff to bring the spin down a little.

They were both stiff shafts and 9.5 degrees

909 D2s lanch higher, so any shaft with a lot of flex and low kick point with a club head at 9.5 or more will likely hit moon balls. Things to do to change the high backspin: (1) make sure swing is not down on the ball, you want to hit it on a slight upswing, (2) maybe look at and hit the 909 D3, a lower flighted head, (3) use a higher kick point shaft, (4) try a stiff flex if you are spaying the ball around, (5) if you can control it, try a lower lofted head. My 909 D3 at 8.5 hits a lower flighted ball than my old G10 at 7.5 and a tour X-shaft, so the loft numbers on the head are not always the determining factor.

A stock Voodoo (Aldila) is not a high kick point shaft in my opinion. Your spin numbers are way to high for optimization. 95 mph is not fast enough to merit extreme measures such as an X-shaft and a 7.5, so consider your swing first. Have a good teacher analyze your swing to make sure you are sweeping the ball and not coming down on it. The over the top and down swing path puts too much spin on the ball with any driver. I'm not saying you are doing this, only that these are things to consider.

p.s. I have gone back to my 8.5 907 D2 with high kick, X-flex Aldila "proto by you" at 60 grams. I like it a bit better than the 909 D3 VooDoo, but my swing speed numbers are a bit higher so this might not be useful information for you. Also, just for clarity, a high kick point shaft does not mean it hits a higher ball -- generally it is just the opposite.

Yikes - neither. You need to overhaul your swing if you're putting that much backspin on the ball. Spend the money on lessons.

Seriously.

I work with a pro every other week at the country club I work at and with him I have developed what I feel like is a solid and consistent swing. I usually have a mid ball flight so I have a feeling these numbers may be wrong since it was at golfsmith...

the diamana is the right way to go....u will get more distance with less backspin.

OMG!

Don't buy either one yet! Those numbers, I mean the resulting numbers are horrible. With a Swing speed in the mid 90's, which is great!, you need a MUCH higher trajectory than 12-13*...but on the same token, you need much LOWER ball spin numbers. First off, were you using your normal golf balls or theirs? Next, bear in mind the stock VooDoo is nothing compared to the actual VooDoo...its a much sloppier shaft. While I haven't seen your swing.....based on your info, I would recommend a higher loft head...and a more stable shaft ....the Voodoo and Diamanas are great...but the ones Titleist uses are no where near the same performers.

I think you are probably right that the numbers are wrong -- because those rpms are comparable to a zip grooved wedge from the rough. A hammered sand wedge from a clean lie might reach only twice your reported driver spin, which is close to what a 5 iron might be. I've seen a driver land and back up but only when it hits a sprinkler head or something comparable.

Maybe so... was it the sprinkler head that was 300 yards from the tee? Ha ha. Actually I have hit a driver that plugged in its own ball mark. We were playing lift, clean, and place that day due to heavy rain earlier in the morning, but still... it looked like the ball just disappeared, viewed from the tee.
