I am about 10 pounds over weight and more important is that I have a gut, Dr Oz says that your waist measurement should be half your height otherwise you are prone to heart disease and diabeties.

I going to walk everyday for at least 30 minutes and eliminate some unhealthy foods in my diet such as soda, candy, junk foods and report back in a couple of weeks. I currently weigth about 180 pounds and want to be around 170.

Chart your weight and your goal on this thread and report on your progress for your New Year resolution for losing weight in 2009!

a few years ago i went on a monster diet, used my bowflex played drums quit drinking soda, didnt eat anything past like 7 or 8pm.... i trieed ti limit myself on how much i ate everyday my stomach would growl so much but i know i didnt need it, cause i just ate, i just wanted it, i ignored hte growling for a while eventually it went away when my stomach started getting smaller, and i naturally started eating less and feeling full

I lost 85 lbs.......got a new gf, her fav restaurant was olive garden and she liked sugar cookies haha,

so being a good bf i would take her there, occasionally eventually the temptation of hte bad foods was to much and i pretty much gained it all back haha

so i started jan 1st on the same exact thing i did last time, so far im down 5lbs

i weighed in at 275 im a fairly muscley if thats even a word type of guy
I have a pretty big frame i think id look weird anything less than 215 200

so im aiming for around 220 might go lower well see thinking about going to golds gym and getting a personal trainer to help me tone muscle

My wife and I are on a salad, fruit, soup, cereal with 2% milk diet, reasonable sandwich, reasonable serving size diet. We have no soda, chips, or icecream in the house. We have no Oreos or other cookies/sweets in the house. We have 2 young children, and their poor eating habits (constant snacking on fruit roll ups, gummy bears, etc were rubbing off on us. We both gained 20lbs last year. We started our proper diet about 3 weeks ago (cheating on Christmas and New Years) We have already lost about 5 lbs each. We also regularly exercise (this includes going on walks with the kids)

I'm about to start doing P90X. If I start putting on more muscle I doubt that my actual weight will drop that much. I'm about 245 now, and I think I'd be about 220 leaned out.
We'll see how it goes!

You were a

very good bf to go to the Olive Garden with her! I've had probably needed some much greater incentive to end up at that joint

I was 272 lbs. in August. I bought an elliptical trainer and have been using it pretty regularly. I have had 2 weeks off for the holidays and have used it on every day except Christmas. I also do stretching and some weights on the swiss ball; I also play hockey twice a week. I am now down to 257, and hope to be down to 225 or less by the end of the year; I'm 6'2" so my ideal weight would be around 185, but I haven't seen that since early college years

Been enjoying the exercise and have just been smarter with my meal portions and snacking, so hopefully I can get there. Back to work tomorrow, so my goal is to keep up with the daily fitness as I am busier.

Good luck to all.

My buddy started that last week and raves about it. And he used to work at Ballys at a personal trainer.

As far as I go, I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I'm not underweight, 5'10", 160lbs., but I am looking to redistribute what I have now, along with gain about 12-15 more pounds. I've been going to the gym at my club for a few years, but as of just recently, w months, started working with a trainer. She used to be a competition body builder and works me good. It's funny to see her put up the weight that she wants me to put up, and more with no problem. She also doubles as my nutritionist. I've been on scheduled eating for about 3 weeks. She has me on a particular carb/protein/fat intake system specific to my body and what I want to do with it.

Ha! typical XX response. I had a friend that waited at Olive Garden. He told me that nearly everything is shipped in prepackaged (then microwaved). If I am forced to eat at olive garden, I'll order soup.

In 2008 I stopped drinking soda which also curbed my sweet tooth. I was about 215lbs at the start of 2008 and am down to 185lbs now.

Gonna continue the no soda and no sweets with smart eating and hopefully the weight will balance out some where arround 165-170lbs in 2009. At that weight I should be pretty lean again at 6'0".

For exercise it is walking the golf course and some sit ups and push ups a couple times a week.

Just ate a chicken breast and three pieces of whole wheat bread and I'm off to the gym for an hour with my trainer in 10 minutes. I'll be running there and back, only about a 1/4 mile each way. I'll have a protein shake mixed with skim milk when I get back.

Stopped drinking soda and no more Caramel Macchiato. Drink black coffee, tea, or water. Eat breakfast instead of just having coffee in the morning. Snack on fruits instead of junk foods.

Do 15 miles a day on my spin bike since it's too cold to ride outside. Normally watch TV at the same time or listening to music.

I recently had a (minor) operation, and the little girly girl internal medicine doctor who did my pre-operative interview told me that according to their "height to weight" chart, I was 9 points away from being morbidly obese!!

I am 5' 10 and 1/2", and weigh (last month) 218 pounds (which was right after Thanksgiving). Though the doctor did admit to me that I did not look "that over weight", but she still had to go through her "doctor speech" about my weight.

I do all the right things, I just need (a little) portion control at dinner, and I have to find a way to do some exercise. My wife and I bought a tread mill the other day, and we plan to start walking every day (and watch TV, instead of sitting every day and watching TV).

My biggest problem right now, is that I do not drink AT ALL during the week. But drink TOO much on the weekends. I know it is a moderation thing, but, I am the poster boy for O.C.D. I don't do anything "halffast", when I do something, I do it ALL THE WAY!

So, I guess, for a while anyway, I won't be drinking any beer... God help me!!!

I recently started doing P90X, it's a lot more intense than I thought it would be. Stick to it, and it will definitely work! Good Luck!

About 10 yrs ago I weighed myself at 212....way too fat for a 5'8.5" guy. Quit smoking and started exercising.....dropped it to 149 and maintained it between 149-160 for the last 10 yrs. Am now up to 171 as of this morning and am extremely uncomfortable. I would like to drop 15 lbs as my most comfortable weight is right around 155. Getting through winter will make it tough as I go outside as little as possible unless it's over 35°. When it's not winter I walk about 3 miles every night unless I'm golfing....then I walk a lot more....

So I need to do what I did before:
  • Walk >3 miles / day
  • Get back to eating healthy
  • Upper body workout (Crunches, Chinups, Pushups)
