Let me start by saying my putting sucks. I have tried many drills to restore my stroke to the way it was before and nothing holds for very long. However, i took two pieces of 1/4" pvc pipe and taped them to both sides of my normally butter grip. I grip the putter and take a couple strokes in my basement and i am getting them closer to my target than i was earlier today and it feels so much better. That being said i am thinking about getting the super stroke putter grip. If any of you have the grip, do you like it? Has it improved your putting game? I also feel that normal putter grips require too much tense gripping to keep control of.... with my rigged putter grip i can loosely place my hands and bam i am silky smooth.

Try the tiger shark putter grips. They are jumbo sized not quite as big the super stroke but they are around $12 instead of $40. Also the super stroke is so big it may not fit in your bag.

I have tried large putter grips for a long time, and I also used the super stroke. For full disclosure, I am not the worlds best putter. My feeling is the super stroke is a poor feeling grip. I just switched to the Winn grip (they are coming out with an even bigger one this spring). It is slightly smaller than the super stroke and actually feels like a grip. Some of it may depend on how yous stroke it to. For instance Utley says smaller is better if you go his way of putting. Pelz with the straight back and straight through tends to lend itself to a larger grip. Overall just find one that works,a dn if it doesn't try another one. Alot of it is that you just need to feel comfortable with it and then practice practice practice. Consistency in your putting equipment and practice probably mean the most.

Don't laugh to hard at this but i am still running dial up so those videos are never going to load... HA HA. It seems like after taping those peices for 1/4" pvc pipe to the sides of the grip and then taking them off my stroke feels loose and good again. Maybe i just need to do this drill to get the feeling back and then i will be good. My putting was TERRIBLE last high school golf season and if i wanna shoot 80 consistently to qualify for the our championships i better make the stroke better.

try the 2 Thumb putting grip. I have had it for 6 months. Has improved my stroke loads. Great for creating a pedulum type stroke. i find it particularly has improved my distance crontrol for longer puts. I saw it at a golf show and straight away I found it excellent-all the other stuff they advertised seemed like a gimmick-this genuinely works (I sound like a salesperson for the company!!) but it does!

There some great putting tips online.

1) practice all your putts close to the hole to build confidence and work your way back starting with a somewhat level line.... later practice breaking putts
2) putt with the proper grip and grip pressure
3) eliminate your hand and use your shoulder in a pendulum motion keeping the v shape in your arms and shoulder
4) distance control is guaged by the length of your backswing and your follow through both being equal
5) you must have a confident attitude without any negative thoughts before you putter. Repeat to yourself that you are the best putter in the world before every putt.
6) practice, practice and practice and keep a record of your round counting how many putts and you should be below 30 putts soon consistently.
7) putting strokes are almost half your score so its worth spending the time to putt for lower scores.
good luck,

so last night after putting for about 5 mins with my rigged up grip i removed the pvc pieces and i was feeling great with my stroke. Upon coming home from school i ran downstairs and grabbed my putter and the first stroke felt TERRIBLE. Back to the old unconsistent stroke and then placing the pvc pieces on again i was back to a great feeling. I know the super stroke will have a different feel and weight than these pvc pieces but it just feels so good and in tempo that i think i am going to have to take the dive and buy it. My only question is, is there any way to not have to pierce the shaft to install this grip.

The super stroke works well to quiet your hands and it has a secondary benefit of reducing your grip pressure. Both of those attributes will improve your putting. However, it takes some getting used to and is not for everyone. I dabbled with it for several months and it seemed to work pretty well, but in the end I didn't make many more putts with it. The two things I don't like about it is the fact that the plastic underlisting for the grip rests against the shaft and changes the feel of the putter. A rubber grip dampens vibration much better than this one. The result is a higher pitch noise at impact and a harder feel. The other issue is that it acts as a counterweight. It's much heavier than a standard grip, so I had to add weight to the head of my putter to compensate for the reduced swingweight. All in all, it's worth a try for anyone wanting to try something different. BTW - you don't have to pierce the shaft to get it to stay in place. The bottom set of screws are the ones that pierce the shaft, and you can tighten them just enough to hold, but not penetrate the shaft. Keep in mind though, that if you plan to play any tournaments, the grip has to be permanently installed, and that means piercing the shaft and filling the set screw holes with epoxy.

I think i might give it a try. Is there any way around the shaft peircing? Or does it have to be pierced for tournament play? This is the only thing that i don't like about it beside the 40 dollar price tag.

well honestly, even tho i am in 8th grade, i played on the Varsity team this year. They dont really check your bag too hard until state... u should be fine play without it pierced the shaft. If they do check, they probably wont notice that, though...

Off topic, but i know that you are an exceptional player but is your team in that big of need for an 8th grader. Also how do you go about states and everything ... are you eligible? Just wonder what your situation is, I know this happens with several people just wanna hear your story.

On the note of the putting, I guess i should say that i just have a bigger problem with cutting across the ball and pushing it off line but when i get over the ball and focus to much on the line and then when i go to move the putter back it isn't straight back. I do not like the arc style of putting. My coach purchased a putting track pretty much for me that as soon as the weather gets better i will start using. Do these things restore a good stroke? I would like to be able to restore a stroke in about 2 weeks time , I will be working maybe 2 times a week. I think if i get confidence in the 4 5 and 6 footers i will be good. The 6-10 footers are my problem, i never leave myself a tap in and then i normally have a nervous putt for bogey (hopefully with other improvents i am going to focus on these will turn to par putts). So what do you think, just work with the track or get the grip to fill up the hands to elimnate them moving anything?

If you don't tighten the bottom set screws all the way they won't pierce the shaft, just dent it a bit. A tournament official wouldn't be able to tell, but the holes must be filled with epoxy or it doesn't conform to the rule that states the grip must be installed permanently. Check this link:

I have played for many years and due to a bad back, could not spend enough time on the practice green. It was time to replace my putter grip anyway and went for the Super Stroke in the middle of last year. It does work as advetised. Takes the wristiness out of the stroke and made me a little more consistent. The big issue i found is that it made the sound of the ball coming off the putter quite different. The grip is held on by screws, so it sounded kind of hollow. It was disturbing enough that i only kept it on for a few weeks. I then went to the larger "conventional" application method putter grip, which brought the sound back to original, and still has kept the wristiness out of it. I would not recommend the super stroke - you can find a grip that will give the same effect for 1/3 the price. good luck.
