Is this worth getting? I dont want to get sucked into an infomercial, but it seems very tempting.

I have on original Medicus hinged 5 iron. It actually works pretty good. The club forces a slow one piece takeaway and proper club positioning. Whenever I feel like I'm outta sync, I'll pull this puppy out and work with it a few moments. I think it was worth it for me, but I paid nowhere near retail. Before paying infomercial pricing, I would shop around. Ebay or Craigslist might be a good starting point. :: The entire posting above is assuming you are referring to the hinged Medicus club, and not the weighted one. If you are talking about the weighted one, ignore everything above except the "shop around" advice .::

I had the 7-iron. Here's my opinion on it. It's great for teaching tempo.Especially if you tend to jerk the club back. As far as the rest, it's not as good as the infomercial. My issue is that while the clun will break down if you go off plane, unless you have someone watching you it's very difficult to tell where it broke. Each place it breaks represents a certain flaw. The manual goes over this. By yourself, you really only can tell if the club broke before impact or after impact.

My point is it's not very easy to identify where the flaw is.

Personally, I would look for a used one on eBay. I sold mine on there.

I would never buy retail price, ebay or craigslist is the way to go.

I was just curious, I heard good things about it. I was not mentioning the weighted one.

I really dont see why someone would get the 5 and 7 iron, seems weird.
Thanks for all the replys though, appreciate it.

My only experience with one is second hand.

One of the guys I played with bought one. He went from a 20ish handicap to about a 13 in 6 months or so. I honestly don't know if it can all be attributed to the Medicus, but he was sure a believer......

....and since the change in handicap and therefore the strokes he got lagged behind the actual on-course improvement, I probably ended up paying for the damn thing when all was said and done!

Many people believe, including Leadbettor, that the Medicus encourages too slow a backswing which affects the natural hinging and setting of the club early and ultimately hurts the overall tempo.

I really dont see why someone would get the 5 and 7 iron, seems weird.

Why would you not? I have no issues hitting a driver. My issue is with irons. Why would I get a Medicus Driver when my issue is with irons?

I'm about to buy one, but I can't decide on the 5 or the 7 iron. Those of you who have bought one which one would you recommend?

To me it just depends on where you have issues at. If you have trouble with your long irons, get the 5I. I always think of the 7I as kind of the middle ground club.

I understand getting the driver and one of the irons, just seemed like the 5 and 7 are soo close together in club characteristics in my opinion. My point is why someone would get both of those irons sets over one than the other.

That I have no idea. I'd get one or the other.

I'd like to toss in my slightly different perspective on the Medicus hinged club. I've had the 5 iron for a couple years, and found that religously using it did seem to help a bit with getting my swing plane more consistent, but I still found myself breaking down the club fairly frequently when I would come back to it after a practice session. However, I recently got the Medicus weighted driver and have started using it both by itself (swinging at home for 10 minutes every couple days) and at the range (using it periodically throughout a practice session). After just a couple weeks of doing this, I find that if I pick up the Medicus hinged club I swing it perfectly, at least from the club's perspective - no more breaking down at the hinge points at any point in the swing).

My personal conclusion has been that the weighted club has done far more at getting my swing plane and release timing right than the hinged club, and the impact has seemed more ingrained into my swing than the hinged Medicus. I still think the hinged Medicus has some value, but more as a confirmation of swing practice than as the initiator of swing change.

Is this worth getting? I dont want to get sucked into an infomercial, but it seems very tempting.

The thing I immediately liked about the Medicus Driver is you can hit balls with it, even with the 460cc head.

After swinging it for only a few minutes my regular clubs felt much lighter and easier to hit than normal. If you have ANY flaws in your swing, this training aid will give you instant feedback about what is wrong with your swing and how to fix the problems. Even my 13 year old daughter was hitting balls with it in no time and she's a beginner golfer! If you decide to buy the Medicus Driver on Ebay or Craig's List - BUYER BEWARE!! You may not get the bonuses (I love the free putter trainer that comes with it) and shipping time could take a while.

It will not give you the 'perfect swing'. However, it will help you with tempo, swing plane, and impact position. I have both the driver and 5 iron. The 5 iron head got loose after using for 5 months or so. Still use the driver every now and then. There are cheaper options out there (refiner golf).

The single best practice aid I have is a heavy 8 iron with "the perfect grip" built in $20 at Academy Sports.

I got my first full swing video/computer analysis at GolfTec. Eye-opening and game changing.

It helps with a one piece takeaway or a smooth takeaway, your swing plane, and your release. However, you can still swing it perfectly and with the incorrect weight shift, still hit a bad shot. When I was shanking my shots, I could swing it perfectly but my weight shift was incorrect.

I was also wondering if the medicus Driver works. Do you also need the 5 iron or is the driver all you need. Thanks for the Ebay and Craigs list idea.

It is crap. Don't get it. It would break when I thought I was making a good swing, but it wouldn't break when I purposely did terrible swings. It actually messed my swing up bad.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
