Mine is 13.1. This is the first year I have kept an official handicap. My goal for 2009 is single digit, although 8.9 would be awesome. That would mean I was making, on average, more pars than bogies.

I was thinking last night that if I could drop just 1 stroke every 3 holes I could be down to 7.1 which would be amazing for me. I think when the weather allows me to play again, this will be my new strategy. I'm going to play the course in 3 hole sections. We'll see how that goes.

I'm technically a 9.8, but I'm a 'bad' 9.8. If you were to look at my last 20 scores, from which my handicap is derived, you would see a few 70's a bunch of 80's and a few 90's. I just figured up my handicap for my worst 10 of the last 20 and my handicap works out to 16.7. I have a 96 and 97 in that list! Fortunately I also have 4 rounds in 70's and 3 scores of 80/81 to account for the afformentioned handicap of 9.8. Last year I was as low as 8.9 and as high as 13 something. This year I really want to consistently shoot lower scores and not fluctuate as much. Funny thing is I usually play well on harder courses and worse on easier course.

First few rounds this coming season better be good or my handicap is gonna shoot up again because 2 of the rounds in 70's will be among the first 3 to fall off the card.

It serves no other purpose to be dishonest...I take great pride in my 23 HC! I am still a newbie have played less than 50 rounds. BUT as of late I played a 98 and lost 9 strokes on 2 holes..and played with frozen greens...If I can limit those disasters then the HC will become 16. My best 9 ever was 44. My goal is to score at least one round in the 80's

Right now im an 8.3. I expect my handicap to increase a stroke or two within my first 5 rounds, but after that i should be back to an 8 or below. Winter kills me, if i could play year round i would probly have a 5 by now. I expect to be around a 4 by the time next winter rolls around. I figure the going to the gym practically every day will pay off in terms of longer distance and better balance/stamina.

I think this is a neat thread. But I have to wonder how representative the sample will be. Could it be that only those with 15 or lower handicaps are willing to vote? We shall see how it progresses. Plus I would say, on a whole, The Sandtrap golfers are more dedicated to their game than the general golfing population.

my scores dont fluctuate too much... mostly in the mid 80's and i know exactly why that is... a few too many blow up holes a round... if i could keep that under control id be a single digit hcp

I agree. While the average on the poll so far is below the national average(according to the Golf Channel s Solutions survey I have posted below) I believe, as you mentioned, that the people on the board are more dedicated to their game or we are all lying to ourselves..LOL

anyone that posts regularly on a golf forum... i would consider an avid golfer...
most casual recreational golfers i know... have no clue what their handicap is and take a general 'guess' and its usually wayyyy lower than reality...

we are the minority... pretty cool

My scores don't usually vary a lot either (the majority in the 82-85 range), but I don't generally have a lot of blowups. I may occasionally have a double bogey or 2 in 18 holes, but more likely I get on a streak where I just can't stop the bogey train. I hit one shot per hole just bad enough that it ends up costing a stroke, and I do it for 4 or 5 holes (or more... I've made 12 straight bogies before on a bad day) in a row. I am just as likely to string together 4 or 5 pars. I played Thursday in 30 mph winds and made bogey or worse on 13 holes, ... I also had 3 birdies (finished par - birdie - birdie for an 85

), but not many pars.

I am anything but consistent. In back to back rounds I shot a 101 and then a 76 (six day break between rounds). Consistency is my goal (mainly off the tee!)
