a few points to make:

1. Golf sales advisors DO still get paid commission, at least they do in the UK ( i know seeing as i am one!) there also are sales incentives too.

however they will never get commission on the big brands like TM, Callaway Ping and Titleist as the companies dont have a big enough profit margin to do so. also it would cost them ridiculous amounts of money if you consider how much of their club sales will be those brands. so if they dont at least give you some of these brands to try then question it immediately!

2. What that guy told you is 100% wrong and you would think he would know that most people would see that all he is interested in is the sale and not the customer. IMO it would put 99.99% of people off buying like it has in your case

3. You tend to find nowadays that its the salesmen that are very good golfers themselves that could be deemed "experts". salesmen will only know about shafts etc if they research it to benefit their own game too. That is the only reason i have good knowledge of shafts and clubs

Yea total BS.  I just looked in the GS catalog NV's are going for 45$ in that weight. Most stores buy from them for shafts. It's a good shaft, may not be for you.  Go to a good fitter and have them try you out and see what shaft would fit you.

As far as old equipment not being relevant is so untrue it just makes me want to scream.  Older equipment is just fine.  Find an old TMag VSteel 3 or 5 wood and hit it.  Then tell me old equipment isn't relevant.  This guy is a complete idiot.  Reshaft that driver and enjoy it.  You aren't loosing anything using it.  A shaft change to the right shaft may make it a real weapon for you!!!!

There are two Edwin Watts stores out where I live now... Good selections, prices aren't too bad compared to anywhere else... Other than used gear. Have helped a couple friends piece sets together and couldn't believe what they were charging for used gear. Unless you know the values and make deals, they'll rip you off. And just like anywhere else, most of the workers I spoke with were friendly and nice, but there were a few clueless and/or full of it sales people. It's great when you find a place you can trust (which I have back home, and will still buy my gear there when visiting). Same place actually tried to talk my brother out of buying new clubs this year... Because what he was playing was a great fit for his current game (versus telling him to go with the AP-2s that he wanted). Of course he went back and bought the AP-2s anyway, just because he was set on them in his mind haha. I equate it to my music equipment or my car... It's important to find someone you trust, and then keep them in business and spread the word. I think positive reinforcement to good vendors (letting them know you're happy and why, referring business to them, etc) helps keep them doing the right thing, and then everyone wins. Half on topic, half semi on topic... But that's my post for the month. Now off to take advantage of 50's and sunny and get the first round of the year in.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
