Was wondering, does anyone have stats on what are the top 10 selling club and ball brands world wide? Also what are the top brands in order used on tour-is this recorded anywhere.

I could guess the top brands but would be interesting to see some stats on sales and tour use.

As far as PGATour for the USA is conerned the Daryl Survey might help. World wide it might depend on how you define things, if you include mass market box sets etc. I would bet Titleist leads in balls, but clubs vary by region of the world dramatically. Which brands sell well in Japan?, Europe. USA is not the economic powerhouse it once was USA based firms may not be market leaders worldwide.

According to commercials/advertisements:

Driver - Taylor Made
Irons - Callaway
Wedges - Vokey
Putter - Odyssey
Ball - Titleist

Of course this is all from ads and commercials.

Exactly as I'd have thought that order. Was hoping there would be some top ten stats out there on all categories of sales, and on tour usage!

Tour usage really has everything to do with sponsorship. So, that stat would really be a wash, unless you went by unsponsored players.

In my stand bag:

I would believe all of those except for the wedge category. I would have to say Cleveland is the #1 selling wedge.

Probably because Titleist is a brand that more of the better player buy. Not that those that top the list can't make excellent equipment, but from my personal experience, Titleist is not that popular amongst high handicappers and such. The Pro V1 is too expensive to sell good on a large basis, even if it's advertised much and used by many on the Tour.

Yeah, I agree it's a price thing. Titleist equipment is over priced in my opinion, thats why I don't buy it. I have Titleist wedges-since I think nothing matches Vokey Spin milled wedges. But the other stuff, whilst all being top notch, you can find stuff that will perform just as well for a player of my ability, so it's not worth paying a huge 'Titleist premium'. Very low handicap players might see it differently. im still surprised it didn't creep into the top ten.

I must admit I had a 975J driver I bought off ebay for £30-I only changed it this year. It was a cracking club.

Great answer-surprised Titlesit are not in there! I guess they sell the odd ball or two to compensate.

A huge chunk of Titleist sales are through their green grass accounts. They've spent a lot of time building up their network of pros.

There data was based on 50,000 customers. I would assume the national sales wouldn't be much different.

National sales are very different.

I don't think that a sample of one retailer will tell the whole story. It is hard to say what products they promote more than others, or what products they might offer a deeper discount than other retailers. Another larger retailer may have completly different results if they promote different products. I got a better price on my irons from my local Titleist club pro than I would have anywhere online or in a store.

To be really accurate, you would need to get sales figures from each manufacturer, which I would assume would be very hard to get.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

i found sites that have data for national and worlwide sales-but you have to pay (quite a bit) to get the figures! I kind of always had in my head someything like this in order of top brand-i.e. market share.

Irons Callaway, Mizuno, Ping, Taylormade, Titleist.......the big boys. Cleveland coming up on them (ok I like cleveland), Adams are big US I believe.

Woods the same, although I think Taylor Made seem to be tops.

Putters... Odyssey (Callaway), Ping, Taylor Made, Titleist (price being significantly higher), Yes!

Balls..Titleist, Titleist, Titleist, Srixon, Callaway, Bridgestone, Nike, Wilson

Wedges...Vokey, Cleveland...everyone else miles behind

What got me thinking about this was looking at Wilson's web site. As a kid I remember everyone had a Wilson Bag, I had a wooden Wilson 3 wood-Ok budget gear I know. But who buys Wilson now. I guess they have Padraig as a good marketing tool, but not too many people are gonna choose them. I see one or too other companies that I just don't ever see people use-Yonex, is another. Maybe they are huge in Japan, I don't know. Im surprised there is room for all these companies to exist when 99% will just go for the top 7 manufacturers regardless. Anyway, I really am just rambling now!!

I've never seen many Titleist irons in the bags of higher handicappers, you usually find them in lower handicappers bags. If you go to a club where they sell Titleist irons in the proshop, you'll obviously find more players using the clubs.

I had Wilson Staff irons when I was a teenager... they were the clubs to have. I guess these days they are no longer as popular. My Dad has a set of Wilson Staff Ultra 45's which in my opinion were the last good clubs they made in terms of mass market appeal.

Not to mention the original question was worldwide. All the answers so far relate to USA sales I believe. Trust me you would be suprised how many clubs are sold by mass marketers such as Walmart. Like exercise bikes I am sure a lot of them end up in a closet somwhere, but I suspect enough are sold to impact the results. And how different are the sales channels in other countries?

Yea, you always see people playing the major brands. I am guilty of it myself. However as you can see from signature, my wedges are not from a mainstream company. I am starting drift over to Japanese made clubs. All of our mainstream clubs are manufactured in 1 of 3 factory's in China. The Japanese clubs are made of better quality metals and their forgings can't be matched. Next time you want to buy a set of clubs, then look at compan'y like Epon, Miura, Royal Collection, Gold's Factory,Nakashima and KZG.

Everyone including myself, needs to stop paying for these mainstream companies advertising costs.

    • For someone with a very consistent swing speed and ball strike, upgrades may improve performance. For everyday golfers, probably not. I'm a rather odd player. I usually get best performance from basic pro or tour heads, but with lighter stock shaft from the model's standard driver set up. (Yes, current EXS is an exception.) When I get a full driver fitting, I usually try a couple of modest upgrade  (not super magic) shafts. Most of the time upgrade gives a couple of extra yards, or 10 yards less. Remember this about stock shafts: They are matched to a particular driver model to fit the type of player likely to adopt that model. Also, most OEMs offer a variety of stock shafts in their drivers. Test for which one works best. And, the final decider...
    • Uh, seeing you're having trouble with hit-and-miss performance from inherited clubs... Get Fitted! IF the 910H pair don't work, swap them out. Also, only two degrees separation in loft is not much. You might consider a 4W (much more reliable than a 3W) plus hybrid. This would give more distance separation than two Hs. For hybrid, get one you can hit... Maybe a more benevolent 4H. Quite often I try to brand match my bridge clubs (FWs and Hs), and my irons and wedges... but not always. Whatever works!
    • Like others have said, get fitted. Since 2011, I have played some combination of 4W + 7W. I had a Cobra 3H and 4H a couple of years back, and would swap out the 7W for a 3H in cold months (keep out of cold wind, and rough thinner for wayward drives.) The 7W matched up with yardage often with 3H; the current 4H goes almost as long as 7W, but has a lower trajectory. 4H also bumped out 4i in last bag redo; I learned to hit stinger with 4H so that's my driving iron on tight holes with shallow landing area. Again, a side-by-side test will tell you which way to go. If 5W or 3H is meh, keep the 7W. Also, are you looking to replace the 7W with a 5W or 3H, or add a second bridge club (5W or 3H) to your bag?
    • Makes sense and aligns with other literature. Static stretching, especially for longer durations, can impede performance in strength and power activities. I would not want to do like hamstring, quad, and calf stretches then go immediately sprint. To me that sounds like a terrible Idea. I would rather start off walking, then jogging, then running, then ramp up to sprinting.  To me, static stretching isn't even a warmup activity. I like the term warmup; you want to get some exertion going before the activity.      a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; }
    • Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
