How do you go about hitting the 4:00 position of the golf ball? What type of grip do you use? What type of stance do you use?

Please explain 4 o'clock. From my understanding, you want to hit the 6 o'clock ball position. A few argue that with the very long clubs (driver/3 wood/3 iron), you should aim more for the 7 o'clock.

Do you imagine the clock from the player or down the line? I would imagine down the line, hitting it at 6 from the player view sounds wrong, but I would also think you imagined the clock from the eyes of the player.

It's from the player view. 12 o'clock is far away from you. 4:00 is mostly on the back but just a little of the inside.

When the ball is at address:

Furthest from you is 12:00, to the right is 3:00, to the left is 9:00, and closest to you is 6:00. I realize this is based upon a swing that is in to out.

Ideally you want to hit the ball at 430. the ball compressed to the face for about 3/4" which allows time for the club to rotate square to the target line, which is when the ball actually leaves the club

If you hit it at 6:00 you'll hook it.

Actually if you hit the ball at 6:00 (the point on the ball closest to you looking straight down at the ball from above) you'll probably kill your playing partner sitting in the cart directly opposite you...

I don't understand how you can hit it at 6 o'clock. My aim is to hit it somewhere between 3 and 4. Further ahead would make the swing path come too much from the inside and launch the ball very far right. Ideally I would like to hit it at 3 o'clock every single time and adjust my aim and clubhead to shape the shot, but since I'm working on removing an over-the-top-swing I try to emphasize coming at it a bit from the inside.

No, you don't. You want to hit the ball at 3:00. Maybe 3:10 at the latest.

4:30 would be bisect the back inside quadrant. That's ridiculous. It might be a good "mental picture" but nobody who plays good golf gets anywhere near 4:30 (or 4:00, or even 3:30).

I assume you are trying to learn to hit a draw? Starts out slightly to the right, then curves back to the left (assuming you are right handed.)

I think you'd get more help if you described the type of ball flight you you were trying to acheive.

I think I would have to be a contortionist to hit the ball at 6:00. That would be one ugly swing.

4.00 is a bit much. How to do it, grip, stance etc? Normal grip, normal stance, trigger downswing from lower body. Should get you hitting from the inside.

If 6:00 is the closest time to you and 3:00 is considered 'the back of the ball', the club face will hit the ball somewhere around 330. The hands should drive towards a 430 position and with the clubhead accelerating near impact, the clubhead will hit the back of the ball AFter 3:00.

Leadbetter has 430 written on his practice balls at championsgate, Orlando.

Anyone know why?

    • Played Musgrove Mill GC today. 72.3/155. First round in 4 weeks and shot 44-39. 2 triple bogies on the front and horseshoed 4 putts today. Overall, 10 fairways, 8 GIR and 31 putts.  Set a goal today to par the 3 toughest holes (4, 18 and 9) and birdie 10 or 12 (which I have never birdied). Parred 4, 9 and birdied 10. Crushed my drive on 18 and had 139 left, but in casual water. Dropped back a little ways and took an extra club. Hit my 8-iron well but it came up short. Bunker shot from wet sand left me an 18’ for my goal. Read the break well but perhaps an inch too much break, and a touch heavy on the speed. Ball circled the hole 270* and tapped in for a bogey. Handicap dropped 0.1.

    • Played around with this a bit. Not getting the spin up. This was even on a green that is pretty severely sloped towards me, clean lie, and a soft green. Maybe higher spin is just not my thing.
