Another, "it depends" answer. It's going to change from day to day and course to course. For most of us, I suspect the answer lies in the condition of the course, rather than our individual swing and trajectory.

Down in FL right now we're playing off of over-seeded dormant Bermuda on most courses. Hard and fast. Even a short knocker like me can feel like a hero hitting irons into par 5's on occasion.

Previously I have seldom gotten any roll. I would usually find my ball within a yard of the ball mark (on normal fairway conditions). I have always liked the higher launch/more backspin drives because they had a tendency to stay in the fairway, leaving better second shots. I have recently switched to a new driver with a firmer shaft (Callaway FT-i LCG with Matrix Ozik XCon-6 Stiff), which is going to result in lower drives and I guess quite a bit more roll. I was playing a stiff flex shaft (TaylorMade stock shaft for R540 XD), but it had a 'soft tip' so it launched high. This new driver/shaft combo is much lower (although I've only played with it once and haven't even been to range yet to figure out tee height, etc.)

With my TM R7 9.5* I got ZERO roll, so I got a Tour Burner 8.5* and probably get and extra 15 yards from the roll alone.

FEEL YOUR PAIN...I SWITCHED TO AN X AND STILL FIGURING IT OUT....TEE HEIGHT....ETC.... 50 YDS + ...THATS UNFORTUNATELY "HOW I ROLL" low trajectory drives of 280-295 if i could launch higher then it would be even greater yardage

Most of the time I am in the 21+ range. I typically hit the ball with a low trajectory and very hard so when it is not wet I will get a ton of roll. If it is wet, or I don't want the roll for fear of going through he fairway, into a hazard, etc., I will adjust and hit the ball a little higher to maximize carry. Around here in the summer it gets dry and the fairways can get really hard, if you can hit a low ball it will roll forever.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I have a very low launch angle so even with a 12.5* driver I still get a lot of roll, at least when the fairway is dry. Probably 35 yards is pretty common for me in the summer.

Yet another "it depends"...

This time of the year, I get about -3 inches on my drives.

In August, I can get 20 or 30 yards depending on where I play.
When the course is playing "short", it is ALWAYS a boost to my "golfer manhood"...
I Love hitting those long par 4's with a short iron!

I wrote 6-10. Sometimes it's -1 (like now, in the spring), sometimes it's a bit more. But I tend to play pretty lush (too lush - I'd love to see a little more speed and a little more brown) courses, and I maximize carry, so 6-10 is about it. It's mostly one bounce and a few feet of roll after that.

Just like Iacas, we are not getting any roll in Ohio, but with my ball flight and carry I would say it would be about 6-10 when the course is finally in shape. I would say a better estimate would be 5-15 yards

Makes it real easy to figure out your driver's carry yardage, that's for sure.

ive noticed on several drives recently that ive gotten NEGATIVE yards on my drives. i see the divot where it lands and the ball is a foot behind the divot. however, i also played a rock hard fairway recently and ALMOST drove a 360 yard par 4 with about 80 yards of roll, lol....

Unless you have a forecaddie, how would you even know? When I hit a drive that carries 230+ yards, I have only a vague idea of where it actually landed vs. where it ended up. About the only thing I can tell you for sure is that I get a lot more roll now than I will 1 or 2 months from now when the course is being well watered. I really haven't got any idea just how much it is though.

Not a big fan of roll. I put down 16-20 yards but if I am playing a difficult course I would rather get more fly less roll so I don't roll into the rough.

Sometimes you know where it landed. Other times you just know your carry yardage with your driver, you can figure out the roll.

You mean you hit your driver with the same carry every time??? I don't profess to be that consistent... What with changing winds, elevations and swing, I probably don't hit the same driver carry twice in one round, much less every tee shot. I can't say that I've ever known anyone who was that steady, and I've played with some pretty good golfers.

i get around 20 yards of roll when i hit a draw, with a cut its a bit less. Usually my carry distance it around 235-240 and it rolls out to about 255-260. My yardages are changing every so slightly though. I am still growing and have been lifting lately.

    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

    • Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
