Just a note about the Black. It's walking only, with alot of elevated tees and greens. The walk up 15 (we used to call it the stable hole because of the horse stable that is no longer there) to the green will leave your already tired legs a bit rubbery.

That's one course where good physical conditioning is a huge plus.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

I'm like an infinity handicap, but played with a huge group, and The Bandlands in Vegas was my toughest one. But I haven't played a ton, but it was a bitch for someone who isn't great. It was a 6 hour round and there were definitely better players than me.

The hardest course ive ever played would be in a junior tournament at Sugarbush in Warren, VT it rained for 6 straight hours. NOT FUN

The hardest course ive heard about is the Pines course at the International in Bolton, MA 8,300 yards, 700 yard par 6 280+ carry to fairway, the green is not kidding 89 yards deep. Imagine having a 250ft putt.

HArdest course i've played is without a doubt Trump National in westchester, NY.

Water on almost every hole and bunkers EVERYWHERE. Unless you hit the fairway then the green, you were in trouble. Even then you still might be in trouble. I remember on a few holes my ball landed on the edge of the fairway and almost always bounced or rolled into somesort of horrible lie. I have never lost that many balls in a round of golf before and i only played 9 holes.

Here is the deal till the open on the Black-It will be open from 8am till 1 pm Tuesday till Sunday starting 4/11/09.You can only play it once before the Open and it will close on 5/31/09.Everyone will have to show some kind of picture ID so they can block you from playing again till after the open. The normal rules are as follows Ny residents if they put thier license # in the system can make reservations 7 days in advance.Non NY state residents are 3 day if registered with the system.Normally as a sigle you can get out on the Black during the week fairly easily but this year I would not give you much of a chance before the open unless you are a resident. You can call 516-249-0700 or 0701 to get further info.

I just played Shorecliffs in San Clemente over the weekend. I heard it needed some fairway work, whick it did, but other wise was well taken care of. It's kind of odd in that you have to drive your cart through drainage/runoff tunnels to get from some holes to others. The hard part here, is that many of the holes are like driving down an hourglass. the fairway is 20 yards wide, with 2 feet of rough on either side, then you are out of bounds. For someone like me who kind of sprays his drives it means bring extra balls. I lost a bunch of balls on Saturday. Thank God for Used balls on Ebay. I did make soem great shots. On was my longest drive ever, at 285yds, it rolled right up between the guys in front of us, who were on thier 3rd shot. I felt really good about that one.

Wilingers,

I agree, Black Bear was tough, especially for a casino course where you expect them to cater to your average skilled golfer. My most difficult was Dellwood Hills from the tips, long course built in a swamp so there is no roll and lots of trees. Great course though.

Toughest course I ever played was Spyglass Hill for the NCGA Am.

The sick demented SOB for a super had the greens running around 12's and they let the rough grow to around 4+ inches. Played from the tips and wind was blowing 20MPH+.

BRUTAL day. Just brutal.

Dunbar golf links in Scotland was by a country mile the hardest test I've ever come up against. It's used as a qualifier for the British open and I can see why; the wind howled off the sea all day, the greens were lightening quick and the fairways were narrow and quite often blind. At my home course (Honiton GC) I usually shoot in the low 80's but I shot a 95 at Dunbar! I've always been useless at links golf, probably because I haven't got alot of control over my trajectory.

Toughest day. Played Prestwick in Scotland once in a hurricane that crossed Atlantic and was just finishing up. All day 40-50 winds. On first hole as I asked group what the damages were.....Caddie says to me. Laddie, What are ya doin....Ya dont keeep scor an a day lik taday....

The Members Club at Aldarra. Probably a combination of tough course and bad play but if that course made me really hate Tom Fazio.

I am going to go ahead and say the hardest course I've played maybe was Belle Terre in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It was SO humid. But then again, this was before I was "decent" at golf so every course was hard. LoL

The Links at Crowbush Cove. The most stunning and wonderful course i've ever played, but also the most difficult and frustrating. I plan on playing there again a few times this year, to see how much better I play it now than I did when I first played. I shot a 118 the first time. I was averaging high 90's on my home course. now im in the low 90's.
