I played Sycamore Ridge - in Spring Hill Kansas. It's tough as nails. Back tees are 76.0 (course rating) and 150 (slope).

in order of how i played them and how they suited my game
all played from blues...unless stated

Doral Blue monster - Fl
Chamber's Bay GC - Wa (home of the 2011 US Open? or 2012) they said I could play from the tips after they saw my handicap....MISTAKE. TOUGH shots everywhere...especially the downhill par 3 that's about 190 from the tips but the green slopes all over the place and mostly into bunkers...or the uphill par 5 that was like 570 yards.... i hated that walk)
Ballyowen gc - NJ (tips....yes I hate links style courses)
Falcon's Fire - Orlando (god that sh** had bunkers & water everywhere)

and finally.... Architects - NJ (imagine the most memorable 18 holes from 18 different courses....signature holes...awesome setup...tough as nails)

I'm calling total BS here...there is no way that as a 9 handicap, they put you at the tips or anywhere close. The starter that escorts you to the first tee at CB would NEVER do that.

Besides that, tips aren't even open yet so there is no way you could have played from tips anyway. I play to a + handicap and they had me from championship, the dude in my group was a 3 handicap and they didn't even put him at the same tees as me, he was moved up one. So to say they put a 9 handicap at even championship, is crazy. AND IF FOR SOME UNGODLY REASON THE DUDE WAS ON CRACK AND ACTUALLY DID TELL YOU TO PLAY FROM CHAMPIONSHIP... why the hell would you put yourself through that torture? Maybe you want to challenge yourself, but CB is not a course to be holding people up at cause you wanna slay a dragon and have no shot. Shooting an 83 (should you shoot your handicap) does not do anything for ones ego.

Pebble Beach with a 35 mph wind. I played out of my mind well and shot 75.

Overall, hardest course was Highland Oaks the week before the Buy.com Tour Championship a number of years ago. Beast.

Hardest short course - Mahogany Run in the US Virgin Islands - a little over 6100/par 70 from the tips but there are 50-100ft elevation changes on at least half the holes and OB/hazards everywhere. Add in the fact that the wind usually blows 15-20mph off the ocean - it makes it a royal PIA. Greens are all small and very fast.

Hardest long course - The Tradition at Royal New Kent - right outside Richmond, VA. 7450/par 72 from the tips - I believe the slope rating is somewhere near 78. Every other damn tee shot is blind, and if you're in a bad position, you're looking at double or worse easily. If the wind's blowing, you'll be lucky to shoot under 85. The good thing about RNK is that all the hacks stay away - I usually can get through a round there in 3 hours or less.

never did I say championship SIR. read the shit before you call me on bullshit. Tips when I played aren't the same as the us open tips. call me what you want... insult me in ways that you'd like...b/c you're a better golfer than me....I could care less. sure I shot like sh** that day...sure I wanted a challenge.... the guy asked me while I was putting what my HC was.. he asked me my avg length..then said I could play from the tips that day....I said sure... you weren't there...so don't go on with your assumptions of calling me a bs'er. and those that don't believe.... WHATEVER.

I've been on here way longer than you...and 99.9% most definitely haven't been playing as long as you. so then you of all people should give benefit of the doubt to people you don't know. why would I have any reason to lie about courses and how i played? i've had terrible rounds..i've had great rounds... the thread was about the most difficult course... why would someone wanna lie about that? but to each their own....and believe what you may. i'm happy with my game, progression and myself to be confident enough to say: STEP OFF

Jay-Bird, I agree with your take on Sycamore Ridge, that back nine is by far the hardest nine in the greater KC area and maybe the hardest nine I have ever played. I played the Nick Faldo course in Hutchinson, Cottonwood Hills this summer. It is probably the hardest course I have ever played, mostly because there are so many blind shots and there is no room to miss. If you are 10 yards off the fairway, your ball is lost in waist high junk.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

Your right, you said you played from tips at Chambers Bay...that is IMPOSSIBLE because tips are not open to the public yet.

"Chamber's Bay GC - Wa (home of the 2011 US Open? or 2012) they said I could play from the tips after they saw my handicap." Tips will not JUST be used for the U.S. Open in 2015...they will be open to the general public in around 2010 I believe they said it was, before the '10 U.S. Amateur comes there. And do you want a cookie for being here longer than me or something? LOL But YES, I will for sure give you the fact that #9 is an interesting par 3 from the back tees and #8 is the uphill all the way par 5 that you mentioned. NOT a hole to get in trouble on and when the Open gets there, should be interesting.

Silvertip, near Banff, Canada. Huge elevation changes were the big problem for me, and this was early in my golfing career. Business trip so it was a company outing - this is still the most expensive course I've ever played on. I shot something very large even for me at the time (circa 120), but it was a glorious round and we all had a lot of fun.

My boss shot in the 150's hehehehehe .....

NOPE.. don't want a cookie. don't want props of any kind. I get enough satisfaction with my life that I don't need outside gratification in forms of props or whatever.

when I went to chambers bay they were just starting construction of the championship tees. so when they guy said you can play from the tips.... i'd probably say it was rougly 6800 - 7000 yards guestimating distances that I remember each hole to be. i've never played championship tees..nor will i touch them until i'm at least scratch. and yeah..no gratification unless i break 80 whenever i play.

OK guys, let's hear what some of you actually scored on those fearsome courses that you mention. After all, I've been good enough to tell you what my score was on that memorable day. An estimate is good enough - saying you've completely forgotten is hard to credit.

Mind you I wouldn't shoot anything like that now, I'm quite sure ...

I don't even call that course difficult. Once you reach a certain point of silliness and "tricked-up-ness" purely for the sake of being stupid hard, it's no longer worthy of any consideration or thought at all.

Hardest course I've ever played? Might very well be Bethpage Black.

Take a look at #6 on Marshwood at Highland Oaks. I think you will laugh. When I played it was Highlands to Marshwood.
