I wasn't around to see Jack play, but i have followed Tiger since he was an amateur. I recently saw him at the President's Cup up here in Canada and let me say, even though the International team didn't win, that he is the MAN.

I believe when all is said and done, Tiger will be considered the greatest. Surpassing Jack in terms of Majors is just a matter of time, and I consider Tiger to have, overall, a more complete game than Jack had.

Having said that, in terms of impact on those of us who love the game, something tells me that the emotions felt by the fans when Jack played his last rounds (ala St. Andrews) will always be greater than the impact on fans when Tiger packs it in.

I think that Tiger will surpass all of Jack's records before he is done... I don't think the gear would make that much difference. Tiger is just on a different level than anyone else in the game.....IMHO

I have great respect for both players as well. Of course Tiger dominates the world of golf right now - but I have to give respect to the Jack, Trevino, Chi Chi, and the guys that shot 59/60/61 back in the day with the old persimmon woods, sweet spots the size of a dime and so on... I'd like to see the guys on tour now play with the old equipment to see how they hit it...

I'm going to have to go with Tiger on this one. Heckuva golfer. I am somewhat biased, though, seeing as how I was not living during Jack's prime.

They are both class acts! Tiger will break all of Jack's records, so I have to go with Tiger, but Jack was an amazing competitor!

Tiger will be winning lots of majors to come. He´s also more athletic than the guys from the old days and the competition isn´t getting any easier so my vote is on Tiger! =)

I think that Tiger is the better 'athlete'. However, they both dominated their own era completely and so can't it just be a tie? Just look at the difference in course design and gear technology. You can't do a solid comparison....

In my bag I carry:
Driver: SQ2 Sumo 5900
3W: SQ2 Sumo
Hybrids: SQ2 Sumo 3 Hybrid
Irons: ProStaffPutter: 2 ball Balls: NoodleLearning the game and steadily upgrading equipment. Need to get some wedges next....

tiger..

the way he works the ball is amazing.

i mean, can you hit a drive into the woods, chip out, hit a 6 iron 211, then make the birdie putt?

My vote is for Tiger.
He has focused on Jack's record since he was a kid and is driven to exceed it. With his determination and mindset, he will surpass Jack's records. I believe that gives him the edge.

Courses were completely different then because of that more "primitive" equipment.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

It is like picking apples or oranges, but I have seen Tiger play since he was a kid and he is bigger than life on the course and off of the course. He is one of the best things to happen to golf for both the fans and his fellow competitors. We are lucky to be around to see him play and break every modern record in golf.

I'd love to see the Tour have a "throwback" week. Get everyone together, give them all the same clubs set to 1980s/1970s type specs and let them have at it. Only modifications could be length of clubs. I have a feeling they'd all bitch about screwing up their routines - but it would be fun to watch.

    • Day 575 - 2026-04-29 Well, shit. (Not golf related.) Did some "expert witness" stuff today, and talked with some developers about a UI/UX thing for two hours. At various times throughout the day I grabbed the putter in my office and did some downswing work.
    • the rules have changed, but this would fall under 11.2 in the current rules.  General Penalty to any player who deliberately deflects a ball in motion, and you must replay the putt.
    • Day 250 4-29 Getting chest through with speed on downswing and wrist arch. Also worked on some moving the pelvis slightly away in the backswing. Feel like im going too fast and long, looks like it on the recordings too.
    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
