No problem.  You arent the first person to point that out to me.  You know, on Wednesday theres a Ping demo day here in town and I fully intend to go there, hit every club that I can, pick the brain of the Ping rep and learn as much as I can about their new clubs.

Dont get me wrong, I'll likely be decked out in my Mizuno gear but its still fun to try out different stuff.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

OFF TOPIC:

What made you switch from Titleist to Mizuno?  Sounds like you were pretty loyal to Titleist 3 years ago, so did you have a bad experience or just never tried Mizuno club prior to that point?

Someone telling that Acushnet still has cobra is a fail. Cobra is on his own at the moment. so not with titleist or what so ever.

And Cobra also has the forged irons so there are not the GI clubs specialists.

But i think all manufacturers are making clubs at the moment that have some more forgivness.

Look at the AP's  from titleist still players irons but no way near blades, the tour preffered irons and R11 from Taylormade no way near blades

Cobra MC irons no way near blades but all players irons.

How many brands still bring out new real blades???

think only Mizuno and nike does.

and how many tour pro's still have the real blades in the bag?

Í think your stupid if you still use blades, it makes the game so much more difficult.

Dirver: Mizuno JPX 825 9,5 Fujikura Orochi Red Eye Stiff 65 g.
3 wood: Mizuno JPX 825 14 Fujikura Orochi Red Eye Stiff 75 g.

An even bigger fail to telling people that Cobra is "on his own at the moment".  Cobra was bought by Puma in April of last year.

How old was the post that got you agitated? This thread is 2.5 years old.

More and more OEMs and their tour players are going back to musclebacks.

Scotty has "slowly" gained a reputation as a preferred putter among thousands. I don't believe it justifies their pricing, but they have built up a fan base. Ping in my opinion is more or a less one of the most underrated companies in the game. I know that might be a stretch considering their leading the charge with a few other companies. I feel as if you were to put up a set of forged pings vs. a set of forged taylormades though, (and i only say taylormade because they obviously are making the most money yearly out of every company known to man) most people might actually prefer the pings. Their customization process can make a player feel as if his set is completely his (*or hers) and only his.* I feel as if ping has always been able to contain the tradition of golf while including the newest innovations. The g15 and the i15 (drivers) have their fans, yet they should truly be considered at the top. It's too bad that adjustability and wrenches and weight tech. has become the leading role in this era of golf.

somewhat off topic.I recently changed from an R9 460 to a Tour Edge CB3. Completely different in spin rates and forgiveness, although the profile of the CB3 is more traditional (or small). I bought it for 95 bucks vs. the taylormade for 125 and thats on top of the fact that i hit the Exotics on average 15-20 yards farther and much straighter. I know, shaft (mid kick Ex - low kick TM) and club head (higher forward weight - lower back end weight) makes alot of difference but I've only been playing for about a year (june 2010) so my swing isn't "tour" caliber. They were produced in what I believe was the same year. And yet the highest handicap, highest reputation company, taylormade driver is 30 dollars more? I now know after hitting the cb3, that its all about reputation. (Won't lie tour edge exotics fairway woods for 300+ dollars doesn't help my argument in any way, shape, or form. Lifetime warranty though? You might find yourself a TE anything in your bag soon.) I'm a fan and i only have two TEE clubs. I apologize for the bias.

My point is, ping can charge $129 dollars for a putter, and ensure that their putter might be better in many ways. Scotty putters are lucky they have a cult fan base, because at those prices, they could actually be giving Ping their business. And even with that fan base, they actually are. (player depending) I've tried several designs of scottys and I'm not really quite sure whats the fuss. Just didn't fit my feel preference. A little too clicky i think. Didn't feel forged. Which is why i have a Yes! carolyne.

I lost what little respect I had left for Scottys when I learned that he doesnt even do the milling himself.  He sends it out to Bettinardi to get it done.

I think some of the most underrated clubs are the mizuno mp series of woods - they often get overshadowed by their sublime forged irons, so people see the woods as no good simply because they don't match up to the irons - while the fact is, they're still very good clubs.

Also I think Cleveland clubs (aside from their wedges) get overlooked a lot - especially their fairway woods, which I think are the best you can buy south of the £150 mark.

A lot of people have mentioned Adams as being underrated - I'm not sure they are, just that they're less widely marketed. I think most would agree that their irons and hybrids are superb.

In terms of overrated clubs, I wouldn't look much further than the new Titleist 910 driver - from what I can tell, it's just a pretty decent club inflated by lots of marketing and hype.

Scotty Cameron putters are also overrated and WAY overpriced. You could buy a very similar putter made by a different brand, that would be just as good, for just over half the value of a SC

:D

I attempt to get round with:

 SL290 Driver, 9*, 43S Shaft

 FL Fairway, 15*, 43S Shaft

Burner Superfast 2.0 Hybrid, 18*, Reg. Shaft

CG16 Tour Black Pearl Irons, FST KBS Tour Reg+ Shafts

CG16 Black Pearl 48-8* Wedge

CG15 52-10*, 58-10*, 60-8* Wedges

Method 001 Putter

Well that's it right there isn't it? The value.

People throw $300 away left and right when deciding which options they want in their new car or upgrades in a new home, yet they almost come to blows over  a $50 differenc in putter prices. Whatever.

Uh, because $300 is on average 1% of the value of a new car, and much less in a home, which is an investment and appreciating asset.  Are you serious?

A car is an appreciating asset now? And if someone bought a home in 2008 in certain parts of the US they sure haven't seen an increase in value. A topic for another thread perhaps.

How a Scotty is like a car:

There are different models. Some really good, others not so good.

Their value takes a big hit once it leaves the showroom floor.

Buy used and it's value holds. (The first owner took the hit.)

A few models have become big dollar collectibles. For everyone of these there's other models nobody wants.

The advertising is as bad!  "The new 2012 Gothic Girl. It's unique tattooed finish is enhanced by two red dots on an alabaster neck. Gleaming white in the moonlight, it's Trick and Treat with a pierced and studded grip unique to the Gothic Girl. Another collectible in the making."

Not yet!  The problem is it could be real. SC's write ups on his putters are worse then wine descriptions.

Edit: I saw an Odyssey with engraved spyder webs.  "With her long black hair, she plays in the dark, a black ProV1 bears the devils mark."
