The impact between clubhead and ball lasts only milliseconds or something like that.

The ball compresses against the clubhead itself (deforms)

And then the ball shoots out of the clubhead. By the time you feel the impact in your arms the ball is already on the way from the clubface.

400-450 microseconds, IIRC, and the ball doesn't really compress - it deforms, yes. And the ball is long gone, indeed.

very small angular differences, with clubface angle would make the ball into slight fade or draw?

Imagine that 0deg clubface is straight shot with a driver. Ball deforms perfectly against the clubface in this scenario presumably, when ball is against the center of the face at 0deg angle.

so small clubface angle such as +2deg open, might cause an acceptably accurate fade?

would a fade shot cause different deformation, compared to straight shot? What does trackman data indicate? slight fade vs straight

Good thread.  A USGA study showed that most 15 handicappers only hit the drive on average 215 yards.  Most people have an inflated sense of how far they hit the ball.  GPS doesn't lie (oh maybe by a couple of yards).

It's always a matter of clubface and path, and point of contact, and swing speed, AND dynamic loft.

You can't simplify things. You can have a face pointed well right of the path with a 9-iron and barely curve the ball, while with a driver at 125 MPH it's going to curve off the planet.

What does this have to do with this thread?

    • I had a coach really emphasize for me when I was working on shallowing (with some backswing fixes and then what you're working on, hands down and rotate wrists) that the shaft line should match in these two positions, and that they do for tour pros. I'm not a good enough coach to really comment more. But you kinda hunch your shoulders at A8 in the right photo like I do when I'm struggling with being too steep. In this swing, to my eye, your position at A5 in the left (first) photo looks great and definitely not too steep. But like I said, I'm not a good enough coach to go the next step here. It's just your shoulder hunch reminded me of this point from a previous coach. And seems connected to your block miss?
    • My wife and I have a nice schedule of concerts this summer.   A bit of country, a bit of blues, and a bit of jazz.    We just saw the Avett Brothers, a group I wasn't real familiar with, but an outstanding show.  Here's a quick sample: Next will be Keb Mo and Taj Mahal together: And last, Diana Krall: Those are all at the Wolftrap Center, a very nice indoor/outdoor amphitheater.  Then at the Birchmere, a small (300 seat?) music hall, Nick Lowe with Los Straitjackets Finally, I stumbled onto Imelda May's music, I love seeing stand-up slap bass getting a lead break!  She's NOT on our concert agenda this year, but some day I'd love to see her
    • Listened to episode 13 today while walking the dog - very interesting episode. A couple of things were not surprising, but a couple I was not expecting. You guys all seem to be settling into it too. Look forward to the next one 🙂
