I saw highlights of the Euro tour and noticed he is back to playing the Burner driver, last year's model. TM must be pissed...

I hit the R9 and thought it felt dead to me. Maybe he should try one of the other 6 models they've out out in two years...

Everyone knows that Sergio is the best ball striker on tour hands down so this is a serious blow to TaylorMade. The R9 is shorter than the Tour Burner TP, even if not by much listen to the tour players. they all say is its about 7 yards shorter, so in my opinion, for non-pros.....its gonna be even shorter

Now if Sergio can get his mental game, consistent putting together to win some majors, he would be awesome, but for now he will have to live with being the best on Tour at ballstriking and the infamous...best player to not win a major..

Taylor made screws around too much. they come out with new drivers every quarter..its goofy to me. the equipment is great but way too much hype and gadgety stuff for a company that lives off marketing schemes. Look what theyve done with their TP balls...uh the red is like the prov1, the black is like the prov1x,, but now then the LDP ones are flipped around...now they've got illegal balls so different stamps everywhere..they are purposely confusing people to sell stuff again..

Sergio belongs with Titleist anyway.. lol

IMO, pros should be sticking with the clubs that they have custom tweaked. Having a traditional driver set to their specs will do much more for them than the adjustable. Amatures can benefit by being able to keep one driver from starting out with a slice to working the ball.

As for TM, they need to focus on a standard and a tour model each season and make sure they are the best they can put out. Same with irons, they need to perfect a set and sell it for 2-3 years rather than having a new version every year of each model. But then again TM is a company that survives off of quantity vs quality.

I hope you are kidding you could make an argument for him being the best driver of the ball, but not for best ballstriker.

Agree: the whole idea that Sergio is the best ball-striker on Tour is rooted in, what, one good season where he hit a lot of greens? The rest of the years he's surprisingly low in GIR. Lower than Tiger, too - so why not call Tiger the best ball-striker?

Good for him. I'd personally hate to use an adjustable driver. That'll give me another excuse for when I hook it off the planet. (kidding)

Sergio's a great ball-striker, best ball-striker though? ahh...well that's arguable. I too think Taylormade produces too much equipment under the guise of game improvement. They are a huge marketing machine, and yet there are golfers out there that subscribe to that model of 'planned obsolescence' where the newest driver is supposedly 10 yards longer then the last one. I appreciate their innovative spirit and a willingness to challenge old paradigms in golf. However, their marketing claims of increased distance are illusory. The TP balls are no doubt top notch.

He's blaming the driver for his woes with Greg Norman's daughter. I know he didn't really "blame the driver," but he's been opening his mouth too much. I'm a Sergio fan, but he should try the 460. It's longer shaft-wise and definitely longer distance-wise too!

somehow i doubt that serg plays the stock shaft... hes been playing a 103 X BB for quite some time in his driver..

He even went back to the TPMB as well. He had sucess last year, why not go back to what worked? It doesnt make sence to be playing well, and then switch all your clubs. Bag at the players- TBTP TP MB Scotty Now- R9 Tour preffered. and some TM belly putter.

Well, ya gotta go with what you're most comfortable with I guess. As a new golfer I love my R9. It's a club that I won't outgrow for a while. Right now I have it set for a draw bias, but as I learn to swing the club better I can avoid having to buy a new driver. I can simply open the face. I hit this thing a lot straighter and more consistently than the Cleveland HiBore XLS Monster that I traded in towards it.

Hey, no one said Garcia isnt a head case and has failed to gain confidence in the flat stick, but remember he is the Vardon trophy champ right now.....seriously...

69.12 scoring was awesome, especially when he is a poor putter. And touring pros and caddies alike have said Garcia is the best ballstriker out there continuously, thats all I was saying..not even close to the best player I agree.

Sergio is a great ball-striker but I don't know if you can flat out call him the best "hands down." You could make a case for several guys.

But, I hit the R9 a few times, wasn't a huge fan. Didn't hate it, but I liked previously TM driver models more.

    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
