So i show up a little early to the LGC and they say they have a spot open earlier then we are supposed to tee off, i am happy with the idea so me and a friend head out to the first tee. I look down and there are at least a dozen broken tee's laying down, first thing i think is "ok the greens keeper are a little slow today" and i tee up and off we go. We get done with the few holes and things are still looking pretty nasty, i am noticing though that allot of the broken tee's seem to be the same type, my assumptions of the green keepers being late are now pointing more towards the players on the field... we make it up to the 7th hole and by now i can not stand it, there had to be at least 20 broken tee's laying ON THE TEE AREA, i could not even tee off with out standing on them it was so bad, i spent a good 10 mins of my time clearing off the areas on all the tee's, not ruining but definitely putting a damper on the day.

This is just out right a rant on lazy people. Pick up your damn broken tee's, its heinous when you don't and now other people are left to do it for you, i have to think that your just a nasty person in general if you cant even pick up something you broke yourself.

(rant off)

Tee's are one of the things I refuse to spend money on so I'm always gratefull to find the fag ends on the course, but what you describe does sound pretty extreme. Incidently the other things are shampoo, shower gell and towels (I get my money's worth at hotels).

Picking up a broken tee after a good drive is the reward. I usually want to spit on the tee if I hit i terrible tee shot.

ive stopped buying tees due to the fact that slobs either leave perfectly good ones on the tee box... or broken ones with enough on them that i can use it for an iron shot on a par3... so my bag is literally stuffed with leftover good ones and the others (broken ones) that i use find their way to the trashcan next to ball washer

Dont tell people to pick them up, because then all the free tees are gone.

That's the word.

I picked up (recycled) quite a few OP's perfectly good tees today. I also re-use existing unbroken tees that are still in place, unbroken, on par-3s. I'm not that precious about my tee placement on par-3s. For the driver I like a high tee, so no freebies there. 13* Adams Tight Lies 3 wood I tee pretty low, so tee butt-ends might work. The funny thing is that I don't do it so much as to save money; rather it's to just avoid running out of tees at a bad moment. It happened to me once, and it was not a good experience, since it was on a very clean course and there were very, very few tee ends to reuse.

it would make sense yes... but it was just ridiculous, i was actually getting angry about it because its just seems like a very arrogant and lazy thing to do.

BTW off topic... i got these plastic "zero resistance" tee's off of ebay for 4 bucks for 100, i have used the same one for 5 strait rounds, they are great!

It gets annoying with all the broken tees laying around the box. I can't stand broken tees around my teed up ball.

I'll often use a broken tee that's been discarded on par 3s. But I'm also guilty of leaving perfectly good tees around the box.

truth is I like people leaving their broken tees behind, although 20 might be excessive. that way I can always pick up such tees for teeing up my fairway wood (driving with my 4W now instead of driver until I can find one that works) and on par 3s. i haven't spent any money on tees for quite a while now.

I too use the broken and/or good left over tee's, rarely use any out of my bag. I don't pick them up when I am done though. I just figure there is another golfer out there like me who could use them.

I have to admit, I don't really see the problem. I get more angry when I can't find a broken tee on a par 3.

In the world of golf irritants, not fixing ball marks or replacing divots rank 1-2, broken tees....not so much.

Isn't there a rule that says you can use a mound of sand, kicked up turf, etc., to tee up a ball? Isn't the wooden/plastic tee just another option to elevating the ball on the tee box?

If there's no tee, just heel up the teeing area.

I don't ussually break tees with my driver but when I do I will not just leave it there. I will pick it up and throw it in the grass next to the tee unless I see a reason to keep it. I have never noticed this being an issue at any course I have played.

I agree nothing is worse than not fixing pitch marks. Divots are a little harder because I don't take deep ones so they explode. I want to get a little sand thing for my push cart so I can just fill it in.

Throw your broken tees off the tee box, don't leave them on the teeing ground.

They do damage to the reels on the mowers, requiring that they be sharpened and/or replaced more often, and that costs money, driving up your greens fees. The greens crew guys are supposed to remove them when setting up the course, but they often skip them or miss most of them anyway. Just like filling/replacing divots is accepted practice in the fairway and fixing your ball marks on the greens is expected, removing and throwing your broken tees off to the side of the tee box should be common practice also.

The best option is to use plastic tees like the ones I got from www.4yardsmore.com . I've been using the same tee for almost 2 seasons.

It seems to me that throwing the tees off into the grass is not going to prevent a mower from hitting them... in fact it just makes it harder for the tees to be collected by grounds crew members.

Personally I don't find broken tees on the box a big issue. But I would feel worse about it if the courses I play had some sort of trash can specifically made for tees.

Speaking from experience, most maintenance crews don't have the time to pick up all the broken tees from 3 to 5 sets of tees on every hole and the driving range.

The reel mowers that are used on greens and tees have very tight tolerances and small blades, and are set much lower than others. Foreign objects, including broken tees, quickly dull the blades. The mowers that mow the rough are set much higher and the blades are much thicker and heavier to handle the taller coarser grass blades. Broken tee bits won't affect these mowers.

My Sister just got back from Singapore.

She played twice, the first thing she noticed was that in 36 holes, she didn't see a single tee laying around, broken or not. After about the third hole, she started looking hard.

I think you get caned if you leave any foreign object on the ground.

I find lots of tees, especially walking the course. The fronts of the teeboxes are goldmines!

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
