Time for the US Open! Who is everyone's favorite to win? Any other Open-related talk? I gotta go with the sterotypical win choices, Tiger and Kenny Perry. I'm not ruling out Steve Stricker, Camilo Villegas, or Charlie Hoffman though. It would be absolutely amazing if Mickleson won though.

I'd like to see Dustin Johnson or Bubba Watson make a run for it. Johnson is really fun to watch, he can hit it a mile

Obviously, Tiger Woods has a pretty good shot at winning again at Bethpage. Also, Lefty is going to be a huge crowd favorite once again (even more so than in 2002).

That being said, my guy is Jim Furyk. He is playing better right now than he has the past couple seasons, and he is always a threat in the U.S. Open. And besides, the guy is way too good to only win 1 career major. Surely there are a couple more out there for Jimbo.

Geoff Ogilvy will be a contender. He played well at The Memorial, and he knows how to win the US Open--fairways and greens, grind it out. Forget birdies, and make pars---the formula that Curtis Strange used to perfection. When Payne Stewart approached the US Open, he became a different player, according to his caddy, Mike Hicks, and his wife, Tracey. He would be focused. All the Majors require that to some extent, but the US Open more so than the other three. Make a mistake and you pay for it. And you cannot make a lot of birdies to make up for mistakes. Zach Johnson would have a good chance on other courses, but Bethpage is simply too long for his game. Ogiilvy has decent length---293.4 vs. the Tour average of 286.2---and he ranks 36th in distance. Zach averaes 281.6, and his rank is 134th.

I always say Geoff Ogilvy and he never gets close!
The only Europeans I can see coming close are Paul Casey or Henrik Stenson and while we're on the subject of European players... Padraig Harrington : is it me or does anyone else think that those 3 Majors are it for Padraig?? (not that this is a bad thing!)

Anyway, for me, Tiger Woods has his name written on this trophy again...

i'd like to see either furyk or mickelson win it, but if tiger plays like he did last week, i suspect he'll be the one taking home the trophy.

opeans I can see coming close are

Pardraig thrives on links courses. More americanized TPC type courses he struggles at. Honestly I think he could very well win next year's open championship.

How can you NOT like Tiger Woods in this one, especially coming off a a win and driving the ball dead straight lately?

I don't agree.

Up until his 1st win at Carnoustie, he'd only had one Top 10 finish - T5th at Muirfield in '02. His US Open results are far better: 2000 - T5 2002 - T8 2003 - T10 2006 - 5 And at The Masters he's had 3 Top 10 finishes since 2002.

i fancy one of either AK or Camilo to challenge Tiger but it wont be good enough and Tiger will take it home!

It's easy to pick Tiger, but other than that the name I keep coming back to is Geoff Ogilvy. I truly believe, as many do, that he's on the cusp of superstardom, and this would be a huge step in that direction for sure.

With last weekend's result, I think Tiger going to win it, but if he doesn't then I think Stenson has a good chance.

I think it will be Tiger, but with all that has happened with Amy, Phil will have the crowd behind him and might ride the emotion to a win.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

I like Phil, but I am afraid that his mind will not be on golf unfortunately. Then again, that might be an asset for him. Who knows. I wish him the best on and off the course.

I'm leaving Tiger out of the equation. Picking Tiger, is too easy.

I'm going with Jim Furyk.

My two dark horse sleeper picks are Zach Johnson, and Steve Stricker.

Who would I like to see win??? Phil, or Toms. But I'm not picking them.

Tiger.

If not Tiger, then anyone else from America, let's keep the trophy!!

I like AK too, but he can't win an open, he is too daring and has the go for it attitude.

Well said.

Obviously TW as the front runner, and Phil is a contender. Gotta say Stricker, ZJ, Perry, and O'Haire are worth mentioning. Never count out the "Duck", he ain't afraid to go take it.

    • Thanks Bill, Really appreciate the tips! I'm hoping between side saddle putting and working on the Jim Venetos swing I'll drop some shots off my typically mid-90's score.
    • Thinking about seeing if our local course will make divot repair part of the annual youth camp….and I love @dennyjones comment to stick ‘em to the carts.   Sadly a lot of the older guys are not stable enough to bend down and make a good repair - so they just let them be or just do the putter tamp.  We also have one member who shuffles his way on and off the green - soft spike marks everywhere….
    • The lie is not really adjustable.  The PGA states that it must have at least 10 deg angle (not sure on the exact #) all of these putters came with the minimum allowable angle from vertical.  This is why the corners are beveled off.  The sole of the club is not intended to sit flat on the ground. Having said all this, the only way to change the angle is to bend the silver piece that the shaft is glued in to. In use: 1. Hold the putter with your top hand and let it dangle 2. the beveled edge will be the closest part to the ground 3. place bottom hand much like holding a pencil 4.  Club should swing forward and back freely but not hit your foot.  If it does then you need to move you top hand outward. 5. Do not manipulate the club path. straight forward and back 6. I keep my top hand tight on the putter.  My bottom hand twists the putter counter clockwise against my top hand.  This keeps the face from opening up. Good luck.  I have been using mine for close to 10 years.  I average 1.7 putts/hole (yes I have statistics on every hole I play) Bill
    • Day 29 (19 Feb 25) - Winter storm in place (here it's cold icy rain), inside day today - started with mirror work and 8i - working on weight shift sequence using shortened swing (backswing to P3) and coming through to P8.  Focused on sensing the shift to the lead foot as I get toward P3 and then coming through smoothly.  Followed up those series of rehearsals with some easy lag putts working to equalize backswing length with downswing finish to 3' - 5' - 8' distances.
