Hi all,

I am 22 years old, trying to fix a few flaws in my swing to make the game more enjoyable on the real course! In my long game, I tend to struggle mostly with:

* slicing or pull-slicing longer clubs, particularly nasty with driver
* pushing any club
* popping up the driver slightly (maybe hitting down on it too much)
* occasionally hitting irons fat

I am hoping to groove a nice in-to-out draw swing path but I need some help figuring out what is going wrong. I made a compilation of my current swing with a few clubs today, hosted on youtube:

From watching the videos I realized that I dip down slightly past parallel on the backswing which I did not know I was doing. I have spent a lot of time working on the in-to-out path in the past couple of weeks to get rid of my over the top move, which has helped me to stop slicing for most clubs but occasionally I still get a slice with the driver. Lately I have been working mostly on improving weight shift and getting better impact positions, with a lot of help from Shawn Clement's youtube videos. I feel like I still need to improve my posture to become more consistent.

Thanks for any feedback,
Pat

Hi,

Sorry but "check swing" is not something we could debate You should post DTL and FO view hitting ball HowEver check swings fundamentals are solid

M

You need rotate your hips less. You need to feel your right knee as very solid and continuing to point straight a head, while you feel your hips resisting your shoulder turn.

Note how the golfer below hips only turn as much as they absolutely have to for his shoulder turn. Imagine that your twisting coil back is like a rubber band in a sling shot that the more you twist the more resistance you feel, then the start of your downswing is more of a release toward the ball.

Imagine being this solid on the backswing:

907D2 driver and 906D4 3 wood
Idea Pro Gold 3 4 5 hybrids
Apex Plus 6 7 8 9 E irons
900 52 gap 56 sand 60 lob wedges
Rossa Suzuka Putter

Lots and lots of good stuff going on with your swing. It just looks a little lazy and sloppy to me. The fixes to your swing would be taking extra motion out, not teaching you to do completely new stuff.

I never really noticed my extra hip turn, I will try to limit that and coil better. I also can't determine if I am flipping my wrists early or not. It looks more likely with the iron I guess. Thanks for the feedback, I'll work on this stuff and try to post a video of hitting balls on the range

Im not sure if it is because you are just quickly producing swing after swing, but your posture is a bit off. When setting up to the ball think of standing straight up and then bending at the HIPS and then just adding a bit of bounce to your knees, don't think of flexing your knees because you dont want to be in a squatting position, but more of an athletic position. Right now your upper back and shoulders are in a " C " shape at address, when a " / " shape would be optimal.

Looks good but I would agree on needing to see you hitting a ball...

And I am wearing the same exact thing you were wearing in your video right now...same color adidas shirt, shorts, and sandals...Very weird.

You need to take video of hitting balls. Your swing when a ball is there might be drastically different.

Not a bad move though. I agree about the hips.

I checked when I was watching, but only with the driver and it looked good.

I'll go back and look at your irons. It is a little difficult to check due to camera speed. Edit: you are definitely scooping with your irons. Your left wrist should be flat or bowed at impact and your right should still be cocked back or "cupped". you have it backwards at impact.

Well I have a bunch of new videos with a driver and 6 iron to post for you guys. I am wondering what the preferred method is. I could compile them into a youtube video but I know that is looked down upon because of the quality. What do you recommend?

Please do two things. One, take a video of you hitting a golf ball. Practice swings are deceiving. Second, send it in to swing check rather than just hosting it on youtube. I'll be able to draw lines and give you a full and accurate analysis if you do.

Just did that actually, but I was just thinking about making it available for others to check out also. thanks

    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
