Caught it this morning while I had some downtime at work. It was a pretty good session, but I was hoping they would get a bit more into the equipment change. Some good jokes thrown in as well (sex change, driver loft).

I'm not a Tiger fan but since I was off today and looking for any excuse to put off mowing the lawn I watched it!

Couple things he said I found interesting were "You have to find a way to make pars because you can't make birdies out there". If the #1 player in the world says you can't make birdies out there it must be pretty darn tough,,,lol!

The other was him playing a 10.5* Driver! Makes sense he's hitting more fairways now with the higher loft and he has the power to give up a few yards for more accuracy.

I also watched Harrington but I can only understand about 70% of what he's saying in between the "AaaaaaaHhhhhhh's",,,lol! I do hope Paddy does well this week!

tiger isnt giving up any yards, that's the point. the driver loft changes his ball spin as well. he hits it just as far and straighter so he says

I don't know when he put the 10.5* driver in his bag but he did make a statement this year at The Players that he's not hitting it as long as a couple years ago. The last full season Tiger played in 2007 he averaged 302 yards off the tee, currently this year he's averaging 293 yards off the tee.

I would imagine Tiger will take 293 and in the fairway all day long!

I don't know when he put the 10.5* driver in his bag but he did make a statement this year at The Players that he's not hitting it as long as a couple years ago.

Some facts are in order here:

1) At The Players he switched drivers about 374 times, all of which were about 9.5 degrees. 2) He still wasn't hitting many balls at The Players - he wasn't practicing much. 3) He commented several times at The Players about how he still wasn't 100% with his distance. 4) He switched to the 10/10.5 at The Memorial, where he says he finally got back to his regular yardages. With every club. He said he's hitting his driver "just as far, but with better launch conditions." In other words, "better launch conditions" means he might just carry the darn thing farther, or at least as far as he did before. And his performance at The Players doesn't count for anything. Not as far as this is concerned, that is.

Let's see if he uses the driver too now. On the last day of the memorial he used it two times if I'm not mistaken.

I think there are couple of reasons why his current driving average is at 293 yards.

1. I believe he wasn't swinging as hard as he used to, because he was trying to protect his left leg 2. with 9.5* driver, he was spraying all over, because of attempting to make adjustment with better leg, forming a bad habit during down swing. 3. And because of his horrible driving, he has been hitting lot more 3-wood, until he went with 10.5* driver. I think once he trusts he leg, and correct the down swing (which he appears have improved, as we've seen during Jack's tourney), his distance will increase, imo.

A tour pro can take a 10.5 degree driver and turn it into an 8 degree driver at will (for par 5's if they want). 10.5 at a normal swing is for the par 4's....280 plus, with middle fairway bias.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
