But why would there be yells like "Ricky Who?" I don't know Barnes, but every competitor deserves respect at a US Open.

That's mighty liberal of you. Respect is earned in New York - it is not given away.

Meaning that if you are ignorant and know nothing about golf you don't respect players that you haven't heard of, even though though they have won the U.S. Amateur?

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I would say that 75% of solid golf fans have no idea who Barnes is - because he's done nothing as a professional.

Nonsense. Especially given that the likes of Jack Nicklaus see the U.S. Amateur as being a virtual major.

"Solid" golf fans do more than just parrot the "information" in golf equipment ads and cheer for the top couple of players in the world. They have an interest in the game itself and its history and traditions.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

He's done nothing as a professional. Give me a break. I assume you meant the U.S. Amateur - which last I checked, was a tournament for non-professionals.

Yeah, the Top 25% do - maybe.

Well, a very exciting ending to that 3rd round!

Tough to call this one... but really, you would expect a fight between the top two... however, Glover sulked like anything when he started badly so if he starts poorly, he could fade... plus Barnes got super lucky at 10, 11 where he should have been more severely punished for his errant tee shots.

Thing is, I can't see any of the guys slightly further back shooting a 64/65 to get alongside them. Micklelson and Duval are like yoyo's, Weir is tiring and Fisher can't hole a damn thing but of course... things can change!

Obviously hoping Duval comes through to win (what a story that would be!) but realistically, I would love to see him consolidate a top ten finish! But I expect either Barnes or Glover to pull through and win...

Does anyone else wish that the final round would be played tomorrow in it's entirity?!

54 holes complete, and Barnes leads at 8-under. Glover is one shot back, then Fisher and Duval are tied for third at 3-under, five shots back. Mickelson, Mahan, and Weir are at 2-under, while Watson, Hamilton, Goosen, and O'Hair are at 1-under. Angel Cabrera and Michael Campbell made up four-stroke deficits to win their opens; Lee Janzen came from five behind to win in 1998. If someone outside the final pairing wants to win this championship, though, he needs to make birdies this evening, before the final pairing gets to tee off.

Before anyone gets ready to hand the trophy to Ricky Barnes, remember that he ranks dead last on the PGA Tour in putting this year. If someone can get to within two or three shots of the lead before the end of play today, this tournament isn't over.

Sergio is such a little s*** sometimes. Just when he is playing well, he screws it up and acts like he doesn't care. Makes it so hard to be a fan of his.

here's the final round odds at vegas. I can't believe they still give Tiger a 20-1 chance with so many names ahead of him? Duval seems a good bet at 14-1. What do you guys think?

More on those NY fans and having to earn their respect...

As reported by Newsday (with some editing):

"Beer-sodden fans and rain combined for an ugly finish to a long day of golf yesterday, with Tiger Woods and other golfers subjected to drunken heckling as the action at Bethpage Black came to a close."

"At 6:42 p.m., dozens of drunken spectators at Hole 10 taunted Woods as he prepared to start his third round in the rain."

"We're on Long Island, baby, where men are men!" one fan yelled. "Put that umbrella down!"

"Minutes later, a group of fans greeted Fred Funk at the 10th hole by shouting his last name as an obscenity."

______

I don't judge all fans by the actions of a few, but when it reaches this stage, it is time to escort the offensive people off the course -- in my opinion. I'm sure many NY fans are not endorsing this kind of behavior, and are likely embarassed by it.

Dozens out of 42,000. What's your point? You'll find more at the Texas Open.

Local TV had Tiger laughing at the "put the umbrella down comment". Again, you guys obviously have an agenda against New York and are looking for anything to complain about.

i stayed out of it untill you brought in the texas comment that was uncalled for.

You're making yourself look bad in standing up for these types of people.

And were there 42,000 people at the 10th tee? I don't think so.
