the only good thing about having a rain delay at a tournament such as we had at the us open is that we dont have to wait long until the next tournament! this week we're in Cromwell, Conneticut for the Travelers Championship which has a good field considering its the week after a major! the big guns in this field are people such as Sergio, Vijay, Leonard, AK, Perry, Mahan, Z.Johnson and of course Lucas Glover! personally im thinking AK is back after having a reasonably good showing last week (T16) and i think this will be his first win of the year (well i hope so considering im gonna back him)! Who do you think will be winning?

I'm pulling for Anthony Kim.

Well there is more rain in the northeast forcast this week as well, so we might have a replay of the US open!

Hunter Mahan. Why?

History in Hartford: Win two years ago, T2 last year. Dude obviously knows what he'd doing in Cromwell.

Recent play: Mahan contended late into the final round of the US Open until the 16th hole, where he dialed in an iron to get back into the thick of it -- his ball hit the pin and rolled off the green, resulting in a bogey and ultimately (having suffered another dropped shot at 17) a tie for sixth. He's peaking, too: his last five starts have gone MC, T45, T27, T14, T6. Expect a "1" appended to that list's end by Sunday afternoon (as I applaud his closing birdie on the 18th green ... a rare benefit to living near Hartford).

What's in my bag:

Driver: R7 CGB Max, regular shaft
4-wood and 7-wood: :: Launcher, regular shafts

I hate to say this because I do love golf, but after the excitement of the US Open, I will not get really interested in men's golf again until the Open Championship at Turnberry.

Because I love the LPGA, and live in Upstate New York, I will be going to the Wegman's this week at Locust Hill and will be following the Tour and its players each week until the Women's Open July 9-12 at Saucon Valley in Bethlehem, PA. I may go to that Major and hope to get time off to do so. There are many good American players to root for, including Natalie, Paula, Cristie, Brittany Lincicome, Laura Diaz, etc. Because of her great victory in the LPGA Championship, I would like to watch Anna Nordqvist. What a great performance she put on.

I like Brian Davis this week. He is having a very solid season and I believe that he is very close to winning a pga tournament.

Anyone know the circumstances that got Azinger DQ'd? Looks like he had a solid first round.

THanks

I just read the paper---Kenny Perry shot a 61?? WOW. Nice going for the old guy, who is playing the best golf of his career. After he blew The Masters, I thought he might have a big let down and a so-so year. I guess that I was wrong. Congratulations to him.

The ball he used was not on the "list".

Yeah I heard he actually went up and reported himself.

Uggh, I'm torn between rooting for Kenny Perry, or AK. Well. at least it's good golf.

Loook at all these guys who are near the lead, at least a few. I mean, Kenny Perry and Paul Goydos, specifically. It just goes to show how "overrated" the "look" of your swing is. As long as you get into the right positions, and obviously most importantly at impact, that's all that really matters.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
