Im trying to find out if its just my driver or if all Cobra drivers are like this. When I hit the ball it makes the most god awful sound. When i'm a the driving range the loud cannon sized ping it makes is almost deafening. Its almost embarrassing as who ever is next to me gives me the evil eye. It really has to go.

My question is, and I should stress that I'm a new golfer that is not very good. Is there something out there that has a better sound, a polite click perhaps, that is good for a newbie.

Thanks in advance
Bob

If you really like the driver and don't want to buy a new one, then take it to a clubmaker and have him fill the head with foam. We did this to my friends and it muted it and did not affect the playability at all. With most drivers today, they all seem to be getting loud. As for me, I just adjust the volume on my hearing aids

I loved my F-Speed. I thought the sound was awesome. Very hot and felt great. Only reason I switched is because I was launching high with it and couldn't find one in a shaft/flot setup that fit me without going for the S-91 brand new. Too much for me to spend at the moment

I'm using a Cobra F-speed and agree that it has an awful sound. If you are not used to the club, it give you the feeling that you have just mis-hit the shot.

Lately, my stock shaft seem to give a very high ball fight. Is this the case for all of you out there?

Try the Ping G10. I just switched from the TM Tour Burner because it was a 9.5* and my instructor said (and I also gathered from reading a lot) that a 10.5* or 11* would be better for my skill level (similar to yours).

So far, I like it. Seems very forgiving and sound is pretty good (definitely not obnoxious).

My Cobra Speed LD/M driver also makes a loud sound. I deal with it by sometimes wearing earplugs.

There was an article published a while back about a golfer losing his hearing and was using a Cobra driver several times a week, so the researchers attributed the loss to the decibels the driver was generating.

It's not just a problem with Cobra drivers, but any driver with a thin face.

Here's a link to the article: Playing golf can 'damage hearing' . Note the Ping G10 was noted as being the loudest tested (at 130db).

The foam-injection idea sounds good. How much would that cost?

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

I'm just judging from my own experience of hitting different drivers in launch monitor bays - all of the ones I've hit are very enclosed spaces. From my experience, the Cleveland XLS is the loudest thing I've ever heard - it is the only one that has ever actually hurt my ears (at least to the point where I said to myself "that hurt").

I recently hit the G10, Cobra S9-1, and the Adams Speedline in a launch monitor, and I didn't think that any of these were particularly loud, personally. I would venture a guess to say that while decibels are the main way to tell if something is louder than something else, I think that the pitch of that sound is important too. I'm not an audiologist so I can't say for sure, but like I said, having hit many drivers in pretty enclosed spaces in the last month or so, other than the XLS, none of them have actually made me say "that hurt my ears"

ARE YOU SERIOUS? Do you wear a helmet and back brace too? How about a chest protector? Goggles for eye protection? What about a face shield?

Don't like the sound of mine either, but I'm not bothered by it, I like the club, that's the most important thing. Next time I buy a driver I might give sound a thought, but ultimately I want the club I hit best and feel best.

Filling the clubhead with foam? How can that not mess up the swing weight? I've hit my driver at simulators indoors, there the sound is very loud, makes my ears ring.

If I was hitting fairways all day with it than it could sound like a fart everytime I hit the ball as long as it went straight!

My f-speed seems to have a high ball flight and drop off the sky when it runs out of steam. I usually gets it to around 220-230 yards. Is it my swing or the club?

I have the LS Speed Off-Set driver and i agree with the sound, way too high pitched! My ball goes very high but I have the 10.5º OS to help me slice less. It helps with my slice tho.

The Adams Speedline 9032 LS is the nicest sounding driver I've ever owned (and I've owned quite a few). It's also the longest driver I've ever hit. You must try it.

When I have the ball going too high, it loses distance and that's what I don't like. Not sure if you guys face the same issue.

Love the cobra sound. Just keep it as is... its bad ass.

I lose probably 20yrds due to this BUT i have a really bad slice and the OS and 10.5º help me control it. I want more distance but i also prefer to hit out of the short grass vs the long rough/bush!

For me and my swing i can't go with a 9 or 9.5º driver...if i do it'll be a crazy slice. I've accepted the fact that i will never be a LONG driver. oh well, I'm gonna concentrate on other aspects of the game to improve my scores, ie mid irons.

Who cares that someone in the next bay over gives you an evil eye for the sound of your driver. They can mind their own business.

If you hit it decent you should stick with it, especially as a newbie.

    • High is higher than most peoples shots I know,I just feel my shots are high enough that yards are wasted which if lower would increase the length of the shot,as for a video of my golf swing, wow I dont know if I can do that,I mean I would feel embarrassed doing that...lol..
    • I'm not sure stiff vs regular will do anything for you?  It's pretty hard to even determine what is stiff, what is standard as that can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. I think you'd get more bang for your buck by going from a lower kick-point shaft to a high kick-point shaft.  Here's the thing @saevel25 is right. Without seeing your swing it's impossible to really know. Also, what is high to you might not be that high. You really should video your swing.  Check this out: https://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/filming_your_swing
    • Go get fit for clubs if you want clarity. Golf flex is not standard. A stiff shaft in one golf shaft might not even be a regular flex in another golf shaft.
    • Thank you for your tips, you think I would be better going from a regular shaft to a stiff?...I never thought of that but I will maybe try that out by buying a bog standard 6 iron with a stiff flex just to see if that lowers the flight of the ball
    • A few things... 1) Increasing dynamic loft, how you present loft at impact 2) Clubhead design 3) Golf shaft With out seeing your golf swing, it hard to say why. I recommend starting a My Swing thread.
