Today was a bad day... I normally shoot in the upper 80's (Second Summer Out)... I hit the ball straight alot... The reason I score so high is I mis-club or I will fat or thin one... Basically just mis hits...

But today everything was slice slice slice hook hook slice... My friend asked me as we were walking up 7th fairway... What's going on with you?.. I told him I had no idea... My swing felt the same... He also said it looked normal...

Is it just the case of the mondays/bad days? (We only play on weekdays)

Should I wait and see how I play tomorrow before I get nervous?

Or should I spend the night working on my swing?

Thanks for any advice

Shake it off and go out thinking positive thoughts next time and you'll be fine. I had one of these days today, too. No reason to panic.

I had a stretch last month where I played very, very poorly ... it started with one round, and then mentally carried over to another, and another, and then my confidence plummeted totally ... I was shooting in the high 90's consistently (on courses that I was shooting in the mid to low 80's on mostly because I was trying to force shots and make things happen that I never should have tried in the first place) and I was really beating myself up over it and I kept making more bad decision round after round ...

I put the clubs in the closet for two weeks and walked away ... then went back at it slowly ... starting with only putting ... then, putting and chipping/pitching ... then back to the range with short irons and I slowly built myself back up ... everything seems to be OK again ...

I am not suggesting that you do this, I would however, suggest that you put one round out of your mind and not let it bother you the next time out ... MENTAL TOUGHNESS is more important in this game than most other factors.

i view golf as a 95% mental and 5% physical game. you have to put the bad days or even the bad shots behind you and settle down for your next shot. and if that doesnt work just drink another beer and you'll feel better. haha
Just forget about it, you will get your swing back soon. Dont give up. I was like that for the first few rounds of the season and then everything came back.

When I lose my swing, I practice short pitch shots. this is a mini version of the golf swing, so I focus on the take away and how compact my golf swing is and make sure that the shaft of the club on the backswing is parallal with the ground and the shaft is online with the target, also that the toe of the club is pointing up.

Once I find my swing my solid consistent contact with pitches shot of 20-50 yards, I try to hit full shots with my PW - 7 iron and this helps me find my swing.

In summary it back to basics and you need to find a method to help find your golf swing, basic and fundamental golf swings.

good luck, everybody loses something in their golf swing and even the pros.

Old Harv said that if you have a bad round, shake it off. If you have a second bad round, review your fundamentals (grip, alignment, posture, ball position). If you have a third bad round, go see your pro. Just my reiteration of the words of a very wise man.

sometimes I feel like the worst thing I can do after a bad round where I was completely mishitting the ball is to practice. I end up swinging like I was all day or changing too many things and before I know it, I have a messed up swing and have difficulties going back to what was working.

The best thing for me, at least, is to let it go and come back the next day and let muscle memory correct itself. Sometimes your body is just in a weird state and not flowing like normal during the golf swing.

Basically I agree with what everyone else has said. Everyone has one of these days once in a while. Hell, I shot a 50 in a golf match this season at my home course that I have shot 35's on numerous times!

It happens to all of us. Just try to go out and maybe work on something else if it's really bothering you; like short game or something. Then try going out again soon. If you have a few rounds where you're playing terrible then you have some reason to seriously worry.

One thing I might add to my previous post is to focus on some positive aspects of your round. In essence, pat yourself on the back for things you did do well or a hole or two that you played well.

Sixteen years an NCAA umpire, there were days behind the plate the baseball looked like a beachball coming in; I saw every pitch, every break and was on top of my "A" game. I've had those days calling balls and strikes where I wasn't gonna be right if they rolled the damn thing in. Morale: Some days you got it, some days you ain't. Just brush off the ain'ts and get back in the saddle and try again.

    • Of course it is. If you have that drought in major wins, coming so close, its more pressure than anticipation. Pressure = Relief, Anticipation = Celebration. Don't get me wrong, he celebrated after the fact. The initial response is 100% relief. Which is totally fine.  Yep, golf is hard. He made a poor swing on 15. He was probably taking dead-aim to get a birdie and pushed it. He probably should have played the slope of the green more. Guess what, he then made way more good shots than bad ones coming in to clinch the win.  6-FT from the pin, he has a 74% make from that range.  PGA Tour players only make 95% of their putts from like just shy of 4-FT. PGA Tour average from 4-FT is 92%. Everyone things PGA Tour players make more putts than they do.
    • There’s a whole bunch of one time winners, but they will always be winners.
    • I respectfully disagree. He's the only guy in the last 59 years to complete the career Grand Slam who's not named Tiger Woods. It's a very small club and he's in it. Once you are in the club, you are in the club. He can retire right now and he's a Hall of Famer.  He's tied with Brooks Koepka for the third most major wins among active players. (And that's only if you count Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as "active" players.)  Everyone knows winning the Masters is difficult and repeating at the Masters is really REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY difficult.
    • To wax a little poetry if I may; it's not how we fall but how we rise after a fall. He always struck to me as a very resilient fella. Surviving the odds including the preening eyes of an army of those who 'expertly' write others off maybe an even higher quality in my book. Hence I refrain from using 'never' as an opinion.  I would have said the same thing about him had he not won this year.
    • Count me in for Saturday at Reserve Run. I'll be there.
