I currently play with irons 3 (20*) and up. I also carry a 3w(15*) and a 5w(18*). I rarely hit a 3I. I would opt for the 5W which I can hit pretty well, and I have gotten decent at open it up a bit to shorten the flight while at the same time hitting it higher. Sometimes when I am in the rough though, with 200+ to go this is not the best club to hit.

So my question is, if I were to get a hybrid to replace the 3iron, what degree would I be looking for? What I mean is what degree would replace a 20* 3 iron distance wise? And would a hybrid be easier to hit from the rough?

I guess what I am getting at is would it be pointless to have a 5w and a hybrid? Or would it be better to just drop the 5w, and get a hybrid? But in that case I still have the 3i which i almost never use.

I've never carried a 5w, always had a 2I and a 3I. I could hit both really well off the tee but needed a perfect lie in the fairway. I switched to an 18 and 21 degree hybrid to replace the 2I and 3I and while it was an adjustment the hybrids are much more versatile

Spacklers, I would get a 21 degree hybrid to replace your 20 degree 3 iron. It will be easy to hit from any situation especially from the rough. You won't regret it.

personally, i will never get rid of my 3 iron, but funnily enough, i keep a 3 hybrid. reason being, from just about any lie i know i can put my hybrid out 220, in the general direction where i want it to go, and i'm fairly accurate with it. but, off the tee, or on a good lie when i want a precision shot, i'll use my three iron all day.

I would get a 4 hybrid or something with a slightly higher loft than your 3-iron (maybe 22ish?). From personal experience, I hit hybrids about 15 yards further than an equally-lofted iron. Thus, if it were me, I'd club down with the hyrbid.

That's because your nickent hybrid is a 2iron + which means a stronger loft.

I agree, 21º hybrid would be good to replace your 3i.
Each club, the hybrid and the 5w both have their place in your bag and on the course.I personally like my hybrid from tight lies or fairways and wood from the rough. I hit both bout same distance but not from same lie or situation.
You'll enjoy the game more with a hybrid that gives you more options.

I would go for a 21* hybrid to replace your 3 iron, you definatly wont regret it. All the hybrids i have owned have worked amazing out of the rough and even better from the fariway.

I purchased the 2+ to give me more range. This gives me a moderate gap between my 3i and 2+ hyrbid, but the hybrid essentially serves as my 3-wood. I hit it much better and it has proven more versatile. I used to have a nickent 3DX 4 hybrid with 23* of loft and hit it about the same as my current 3-iron (21*), hence my previous suggestion. Just my personal experience.

I would got 21* as well. Since everything else you have is Taylormade Im going to assume a Rescue is in your future, but alot of guys on here myself included stand by the Nickent hybrids. Might be a good place to look. All hybrids are great out of the rough or sand. They also double as a bailout club when you need to punch.
