Golf Logix has an app for the iphone and blackberrys(golfgps.com) ive used there actual gps and it works well going to try it on the blackberry tonight

This was the one I was thinking of downloading but I don't have 3g on my Iphone and no access to wifi on the course so I don't know if I will be able to load the courses up prior to the round. The GPS should work fine as I use the mapquest app allot.

I have it for my iPod touch.

I agree with Des Nuttz, it's a great app... downloaded it today on the course while waiting for the slowest foursome ever in front of us... really cool features, was spot on with skycaddie yardages... good stuff

The iPhone version of Golfshot GPS is as accurate as anything I would ever need... Very intuitive, as well.

Here's a tip: Try changing your iPhone settings before a round and turn off anything that you don't need for the next couple hours. You can do without 3G, bluetooth, and wireless, but leave `location services' on. Then, set your auto-timeout or auto-lock settings to "never." This way, your phone will stay awake and GPS will monitor your position even while you're not looking at it. It takes some getting used to not to click the lock button when you are setting the phone down, but it'll save you close to 10 seconds every time you want to check a distance.

If you forgot to charge your iPhone last night, you might try turning the brightness down as well. Personally, I haven't had to do this... I do know that on my iPhone 3G, if I don't turn off the 3G network I'll run out of power before the end of the round. Hope that helps somebody...

If your location services work, like I was saying in my last post, I

turn off the 3g and the wifi before my round to save power, so I don't see any reason you'd suffer with an original iPhone version... EDIT: I noticed you were talking about a different application (Golf Logix or somesuch? I can't speak for this one, I was referring to Golfshot GPS here...)

So does the touch have GPS?

If I use Google Maps when connected to a wireless network it knows where I am. If I'm not connected it doesn't.

Don't wast your time buying this app. If you really want to buy a golf GPS, get the Callaway UPro. There's no membership fees and its really easy to use. It shows you the distances to rough, sand traps, water, and green. It's a little pricey but is well worth the investment.

What are you, a Callaway rep? If someone already has an iPhone why would they purchase a Callaway uPro for $249 (minimum) when they can purchase a $30 app that serves the same purpose? That doesn't make any financial sense. Your post was a "wast" of time.

Golfshot GPS is the best golf app out there IMHO. Golf logix is charging a subscription fee, so ditch that. I found the yardages on GolfShot to be on par with my SG5....

definitely worth it, unless they start charging a subs. as well......

I'm pretty sure there was a recent iPhone thread, but I can't find it. I aplogize for any thread duplication.

I've tried quite a few apps. I'm a big fan of GolfShot GPS and it's my primary golf GPS tool. Prior to that I used an app called My Caddie Pro -

www.imakepars.com which is still free. The GPS on that APP has cooler features that allow you to really plan your shots from tee to green. Here is how I breakdown the two apps I've used the most: 1) Golfshot GPS - Scorecard / Statistics simply rock and are the best I've seen. You can even log into a website and see all your rounds. Friends too. (29.99) 2) My Caddie Pro - Great tool, and the GPS / Map allow you to touch your finger and get immediate distances better than any other app. Plus with this app you can use Google Maps to customize your favorite course for how you play. If this app had the statistical features of Golfshot it would be the only app I'd ever use. (FREE)

I have it but rarely use it since it kills my battery. Lost the phone once on the course cuz I was using it for a yardage. Functionality wise it was pretty good.

Really like the scorekeeping and stats features. Hoping they can find a way to get the GPS to lock on a little faster.

Bug Update: According to the manual, you can stop an 18 hole round after nine and GolfShot will still calculate your handicap. Unfortunately, a bug gives you a +10 handicap. This screws up subsequent rounds too. They are aware of the problem and expect to patch it in an upcoming release. I'm waiting to hear back from my last email, but think I will have to delete a few rounds back to before the bug happened to have correct handicap tracking.

I bought golfshot and the GPS is rarely accurate. Sometimes it's way way off. I don't use it because of that. Maybe it's my iPhone, although I doubt it, as the other GPS applications seem to work fine (maps, etc.)

GolfShot is great on the Iphone 3GS. I've had zero accuracy problems and it was very easy to learn and really has me dialed in distance-wise.

It takes like a few seconds for it to catch up, go check the wind and you will get your yardage.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
