i find it amazing that tiger is 50th on that list of GIR percentage and yet continues to dominate.

I was wondering why Kaymer wasn't playing Titleist anymore... He is a extremely solid young player and I was surprised to see him playing TaylorMade, maybe they made him an offer he couldn't refuse...
Stricker seems to be doing OK with Titleist equipment, although I'm fairly certain he's using an Odyssey putter... I'm a Titleist loyalist after being a Ben Hogan loyalist for years... Titleist irons just look right to me, but I know that Nike makes great equipment, and so do Mizuno, TaylorMade, and Callaway... I never thought I would use a TaylorMade driver but after I got an R9 from the tour van I shelved my 909D2... My point is I use the equipment that looks good to me and that I have confidence in, regardless of the manufacturer or what tour pros are using it... I damn sure can't hit it like they do.

You are correct, the Titleist logo next to a pro's name on the money list is because they use a Titleist golf ball

Interesting, found this on TGC website, what's in the bag for Martin Kaymer:

Driver: Ping Rapture (9 degrees)
Fairway Wood: TaylorMade R9 (13 degrees with Fubuki 73-X shaft
Iron (2): Titleist 695 MB
Irons (3-9): Titleist ZM Forged
Wedges: Titleist Vokey 200 Series (48, 54 and 58 degrees)
Putter: Ping Redwood Anser
Ball: Titleist Pro V1x

He's wearing the TM hat and using the TM bag but only one TM club in the bag

Titleist 913H 19, 913H21

Titleist 712CB 5-P Titleist Vokey 54, 58 Scotty Cameron Fastback Titleist ProV1x

I believe you're right... Duval was using Nike equipment at that time... unfortunately he hasn't won since that Open victory

And don't forget all the people that yell and scream "Oh Tiger used Titleist before he joined Nike so they must be the clubs he really wants to use", so even though these players aren't with them, Titleist still get the benefit of being seen as the best clubs that all the pros would be using if they weren't getting paid to use other brands.

It was great seeing him in contention at Bethpage though. I hope he keeps it up.

Agreed! I thought he was going to win the tournament... that would have made for a great comeback story...

Exactly!!! For some reason, it seems like we havent had any real "stories" this year, with a couple of exceptions such as Tiger's return and Phil's temporary departure. It seemed liked last year we had a few more stories going on such as the rise of all the young guns, Paddy's amazing performances, and others. Duval winning the US Open would have definitely stood out for this year. Maybe later in the year, we'll look back on it as the "starting point" for him...

Did titliest ever have Tiger set up with a deal at all? Or did he just use their clubs as an ametuer? I thought he signed with Nike right out of the gate.

He used Mizuno as an amateur and into 1998, Titleist from 1998-2002 and Nike ever since.

Titleist were apparantly upset at him for the advert he did when he started bouncing a golf-ball on a wedge. They said that Nike was using Woods to promote its Tour Accuracy ball...and they parted ways:
TaylorMade R9 460 9.5°
TaylorMade R9 13°
TaylorMade RAC TP MB 3-PW
TaylorMade RAC TP 54°.10 / 58°.10

Nike was for apparel only at first. Titleist handled the clubs and balls and whatnot.

heres my view... Titleist is losing ground in the ball market. Srixon ZStar/X and TMades TP red/black, are great balls. I know ive been able to get people off their Titleist kick by selling them on the TP Red/Blacks. its not hard to get them off behemoth of a ball maker... one line always get em "the guy who developed the ProV1, developed the TP red/black" and with that they put the box of titleist's down and grab the taylormades, next thing you know, its all they buy.

honestly ill play a top flight before a titleist, i think they are the stella artois of the ball world, arrogant and aloof.

play a TMade, Srixon, or Bridgestone and go against the status quo.

Sidenote: I wouldve loved it if Tom Watson would have won the Open, but in retrospect im glad he lost because thats one less Titleist commercial i have to watch, exclaiming that "Titleist has won in its kajillionth Championship"

    • I think there's a difference between taking time over the ball and taking time to play a shot, at least IMO. One thing I've noticed in a few guys I play with who take a long time over the ball to pull the trigger, is that their backswing is really fast and I think it makes it harder to have a smooth rhythmic down swing. It's almost like they take so long to swing that when they do they speed to catch up. Doesn't lead to good golf IMO.

    • As long as it's from a reputable seller it should be just fine. Just make sure the picture of the weight looks the right shaped weight for that specific driver head. You can even weigh it yourself when you get it if you want to be extra sure. Personally I don't consider $15 for something that can greatly change your impact and delivery characteristics to be "not cheap" but that's just my opinion. Especially since you know it's bringing it closer to what you were fit into and you're already saving a bunch of money by going the used/prior model year route too.
