If you hadn't put in "almost" I would have said I'll take that bet. 8-)

I'm going to pick up a dozen and give them a try. Anything that will help keep my ball in play is worth looking into.

I hate the Top Flite Gamer. It just did not work for me.

However the Precept Laddie has been awesome for me, and since I can get 24 balls for $20 I think I will stick with it until it stops working

Seriously, Pinnacle balls are hard to beat for the price. I use the Pinnacle Gold precision balls. You can find them at Walmart for $16 for 15 balls. They have other balls as well! After using NXT and Bridgestone balls for a years, I tried these out and actually like them better.

Hard to imagine a better ball thsan the Taylormade TP ange at the current price, I have used these for almost 2 years and love them. Maybe i am strange, but i tried the gamer and i thought it was a very ordinary ball, can't get on that bandwagon, durability sux, the spin is nowhere near that of the TP's and i did not see any increase in distance. for the price of the taylormades, u would be crazy to use anything else...just my 2 cents...

had my first round with the Top Flight Gamer and i must say...they absolutely SUCKED!!! matter of fact after 9 holes i went back to the Noodle and could tell a difference right away.
Was worth a try after all you guys recommended them, but i'm gonna have to pass on the Gamer.

I just seen the Taylor Made Penta , has anyone given them a try yet??? they are quite pricey though. i believe they were $45

top flite gamer most definatly. Great distance, Soft feel, and still very good feel/ spin on the greens. Magazines have called it the pro v1 of affordable balls.

Not to bump up an old thread, but lostgolfballs.com has a bucket of 50 AAAAA Nike Karma balls on sale through Father's Day (I'm assuming) for just over $22, more toward $20 if you use FRIEND as the coupon code. Still comes out to around $30 for shipping, but it's better than buying the same number of balls new. I ordered some a couple days ago, and will see how they are.

What's in my Tartan Precise TS-869 Bag:

I think if you're a mid handicapper, you can start using a better ball than a 2 piece ball

why?

A premium ball is going to move more in the air than a 2 piece ball. I think spin balls are only good for single digit handicappers

I'm not reccomending that the OP should go get a ProV1x or Tour D, NXT and NXT Tour is designed to help minimize spin off the tee. Same with the Vapor. Here's how I see it, the middle class golf balls as I'd like to put it. They give you some spin but they also are designed to help you off the tee in terms of spin(slice or hook spin). You can find these balls used/refinished for the price of a 2 piece ball per dozen.

I'll stick to ultra's or top flite's until I'm confident enough to try spin shots.

I don't think the extra money is worth it.

That's fine too, I mean Titleist and Nike makes crap 2 piece balls to be honest. Top Flite is the way to go for 2 piece balls. Seeing how as you are in Ireland, I'm sure the 2 piece balls help with the winds I expect there would be when you're playing.

Can't necessarily agree, I've broken 80 with a Titleist DT Carry. Gotta play with the right ball for the conditions-now that I'm back in warm, dry AZ I usually use a urethane covered ball, but things were different when I was in Western NY.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
