So I bought the 2007 TaylorMade Burner rescue club, 19* and took the 3 iron out of my bag. I know that the 19* is supposed to be a replacement for a 3 iron, but I carry my 3 iron 200 yds or thereabouts and I carry the 19* club 210 - 215 yds.

So I bought the 22* and took the driver out of my bag. I finally figured out how to hit my 3 wood again and I've been bombing it 240 or more recently. It's been a while since my driver has found the fairway. I'm effectively trading my driver for 2 iron (the 19*). The longest course I play is about 6,800 yards, so 240 off the tee in the short grass is more than enough for this 17 handicapper. It's certainly a lot better than punching out or using a 6 iron to slice the ball out of the woods and up the fairway from 130 yards.

any difference between a hybrid and a rescue? or just the same club by different names?

I thought a 20*-21* is supposed to replace a 3iron?

A 3i is normally around 20-21º, which is why a 20-21º hybrid is said to replace one. This will however depend on which irons and hybrid you use. There are differences from one set to another, this includes the hybrids. If you got a 3i you can hit a long way, and a 21º hybrid you can't hit as far, the hybrid won't fit as a replacement for the 3i. It is useful to find a store, pick out a couple of hybrids of different brands, remember to bring your 3i, perhaps the 4i too. First hit the 3i and 4i, write down the distances. Then hit each of the hybrids and pick whichever you hit best and fit your distance.

Why is this easier to hit? It has about the same loft.

Its got more clubhead weight, so it puts more energy to the ball and is easier to hit than a traditional 3-iron.

Personally, Id replace your 3-iron with a 3-hybrid. It will be easier to hit than a 3-iron and its a much more versatile club than a 3-iron. You can hit a hybrid off the fairway, out of the rough and out of a bunker equally well and a hybrid even works well for greenside chipping.

I know everyone says hybrid, but have you considered a 5 wood at all? You get much more distance and it flies much higher than a hybrid.

If you use your 4 iron to get out of trouble for low punches and wouldn't mind a bit of extra distance, go for a higher lofted wood. If your 3 iron was your get out of trouble club, pick up the hybrid. Truthfully, I think you have enough distance not to need the hybrid, but that might just be me. I'd say look at the distance gaps you want filled and what you want to use it for. Either way, you can't go wrong. They're both easy to hit long and will give you the oppertunity to stop on the greens.
