My favourite used to be Canada/Russia for hockey. That has died down more now and it becomes more Canada/USA. Not nearly the same appeal though.

In terms of NFL rivalries Dallas vs. Philly and Chicago vs. Green Bay are a couple of pretty good ones. Lately one of the best rivalries has been Indianapolis (go Colts!) vs. New England, but it has kind of cooled off some. I don't think the NFL will ever have rivalries on par with MLB though.

Culturally speaking I don't know why soccer doesn't do well as a pro sport in the US, it just doesn't. Our children play it, but somewhere around high school and especially college age baseball, basketball and football take over. It seems like everyone in those gigantic stadiums is having a good time whenever I see a match on TV, but I've tried to watch and I just can't get into it.

I can't understand why "soccer" is looked upon so unfavourably by Americans.

They need their breaks. Asking them to concentrate for 45 minutes in a row is a tough ask.

I consider racing a sport and they dont take breaks.

anyway. soccer, i think, tends to lull people to sleep. its a fast and very difficult game, maybe if they shrank the field, i dunno. Hockey is exciting and it is the same premise. indoor soccer seems to have a large following in the US

My wife is a big soccer fan and while I appreciate the skill of the game, the behaviour of the pros leaves much to be desired.

So many times you see people going down with "injuries" and rolling around with fake tears only to get up perfectly fine after a spray of the magic water bottle from the medic.

Some South American football derbies are up there.

True dat. I offer Boca Juniors vs. River Plate. I lived in Buenos Aires for several years and have to admit, I've never seen any American sports rivalry that even comes close to that level of passion.... .....including my own, beloved Green Bay Packers.

Any rivalry where losing to that one team too many times can cost you a job goes in my book. To that end, I'll go with Auburn/Alabama in college football

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Tiger/Phil.

My vote goes to the Canadiens vs the Maple Leafs.

Rangers-Islanders in hockey. For many years, Ranger fans would chant "Potvin sucks" and Islander fans would chant "1940." (At the time it represented the last time the Rangers won the Cup)

Yanks-Sox are huge. Cards-Cubs are huge, too. IMO, nothing beats Dodgers-Giants. They hated each other in NY, moved out to Cali and still despise one another. The fans are vicious and borderline crazy. (One fan actually murdered another in the parking lot)

CFB-As a teenager, I absolutely loved watching Miami and Notre Dame go at it. Thought the games were awesome. Today, has to be any two teams from the SEC. I'm a Jets fan and believe me, most of the football on SEC Saturdays is better than the football at the Meadowlands on Sunday.

Anyone saying any US sports is again woefully out of touch.

Thats childsplay, soccer sucks.

He's right, soccer is for pansies. All those European guys take dives every time any defender comes near them (especially the Italians, and Cristiano Ronaldo does it, too, except when he knows he'll get away and score) Some of the hooligans may act in an intense, violent manner, but this doesn't legitimize the rivalry on the field. American football players take a beating every down, and put their bodies on the line for their team. It's the ultimate team game, and its also very tactical. I think fans here in the US appreciate this more, whereas we see soccer players falling down crying only to magically stand up and appear completely healed after a minute on the ground and a quick spray of that "magic" spray stuff. It's just not very appealing in our culture.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
