does anybody have any funny golf injury stories? I am not talking about pulling a muscle swinging too hard, I mean something funny, like on your follow through your shaft hit a tree broke and hit you in the head. Or, a ball bounced off a tree and hit you.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I wasn't there, but this happened to a friend of mine.

It was his first time golfing on a real course. He was with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. Morning time dew on the ground, or it had just rained, and he didn't have golf shoes. Took a swing on the first tee, slipped on the wet grass and broke his ankle. Wait, it gets better. When he fell to the ground he somehow managed to fracture one of the shin bones. I don't think he has golfed anymore.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

When I was younger I hit a bad 3-wood shot off a tee. I got mad, of course, had to slam my club on something and for some odd reason chose the pole holding the top of the cart up. I swung, hit the pole, the shaft of the club broke and the head wrapped around and hit my hand, broke 2 knuckles. Needless to say, I have never hit another pole...

Well, I'm a new golf player, I just practiced for 1 month, and now I feel pain from shoulder when down swin my club. Do you know what's wrong with my position?

Mine's only funny because of the background.

I'm nursing a chest wall strain (Tore some cartilidge in my ribcage -- Was ignoring it for a while when my girlfriend discovered I had a misshapen lump sticking out of my ribs). Not exactly sure when I did it, but it was after a trip to the range... Probably from whacking the club fat into the ground 100 times.

BUT, I took up golf because we'd decided I had reached an age where it wasn't prudent to continue with MMA training, spending more time injured than training.

Almost had a -real- nasty one the other morning. I'd gotten off work and was tinking some balls around in my dead grass heat wave drought yard. Stepped on this wood shard that punched straight through my shoe and sock, only managing to bruise the sole of my foot.

---------------

This isn't 'injury', but it's kind of stupid: I have a tiny townhome style yard, so I'm hitting my airflows up against the wall. I've found the right range to stand so that I know I've hit certain irons clean when the ball bounces back and hits me in the face.

Currently in my bag:  Under Revision

I was playing with my pops a couple years ago i was setting up for my second shot on this par 4 410 yards. I was about 185 out and he was about 5 yards behind me and 5 yards to my left. So i told him to get out of the way before i hit um. He laughed and told me to shut the f*** up. So without trying i hooked the ball right towards the cart, ricocheted right of the roof and hit him in the back. I took a drop and put it 3 inches to the pin lol. For the rest of the day he parked the cart 25 yards behind my ball and told me to walk lol.

I slightly pulled a muscle in my ribs from swinging too hard, but the story behind it is slightly amusing/embarrassing.

Having come back after a long break and fixed my swing problems with a couple of lessons, I was hitting easy 7-irons at the range, and disappointed that they were only just making it to the white flag at 135 yards. I used to hit an easy 7-iron 150 yards, and about 160 if I went after it.

So I swung harder and harder until I eventually got one to the blue flag at 155, but in doing so felt a tweak in my ribs.

At my next lesson, I was asking the pro about how I could get my distance back, and lamented my 135 yard 7-iron. He pointed out that the markers at the range are in meters, not yards; the white flag was 150 yards = 135 meters.

So now I feel dumb for picking up an injury and writing off two weeks of practice, and dumber for not being able to read the distance chart units

Home course: Lenzie Golf Club. Working on: ball striking.

Didn't happen to me but one of my friends, we were playing at a course next to a lake, he wasn't having a very good day and after a pretty bad 3 putt green, he threw the ball as hard as he could into the water. He finished the round but next morning at work complained about he shoulder hurting, turned out he had a bad strain of his rotar cuff and couldn't play for 2 months.

My cousin had a ball lying by a root and was trying to punch out. He obviously pushed his punch shot somehow and it hit the root and came back and hit about 1" away from his balls.!! Almost disastrous!

I have seen this same guy hit 2 people with shots! Both of them had the other players looking for a lost ball. My cousin went ahead and hit his approach shot but he yanked them both and hit the players! Thank goodness this was a long time ago and he is a little better ball striker now.

One time I was attempting a punch shot to get under some trees. Using a 5-iron, I caught the ball a little thin and the ball skipped off a huge granite rock and went straight in the air (or so I thought). I waited the good couple of seconds for the ball to come down. All of a sudden, DONK! The ball came down right on the top of my head.
The pain was increased because of another incident before my round. As I was getting my clubs out of the car, I flipped open the trunk and immediately bent down to get them. The trunk doesn't have shocks like some cars do that lift it up and hold it there, so it went up and came crashing down on my head. OUCH!

Couple of years ago. I hit a poor bunker shot. Climbed out of the bunker and swung my wedge at the sole of my shoe to knock the sand from it. In my somewhat PISSED OFF state, I probably overswung just a bit, and my aim wasn't quite what it should have been.........I missed my shoe and caught that little hard bump thingy on the inside of my left ankle. I went down like someone had hit me with an axe-handle. My buddies laughed so hard they almost wet themselves.........

I didn't walk right for a week.

I have done that before!! Man that is some painful stuff!! I don't think I did it quite as bad as you, but it still took me down!

i was up at my brothers house in dc and he invited me to play one of the really nice courses up there...
we got to the driving range to warm up before the round and i was bending balls to my will... getting really excited about starting the round... i get out my 6i and place my last range ball down on the mat... lets just say i hit it so fat that the club literally stopped while the rest of my body was trying to follow thru...
i felt like i pulled every muscle on the left side of my body... i immediately knew something was wrong... we had already dropped the cash for the round and i thought i could play thru the pain... wrong...
first tee... my drive went a whopping 50 yrds... i couldnt swing past impact without severe pain...
man i felt like crying... not because the pain but because i really wanted to play this course... lol
RUSS's avg drive - 230yrds and climbing

On a par three that you have to carry a small WALLED pond to get to the green, my buddy hit to 10' short of the pin. His putting routine involed backing away from the putt to get a line...

He fell 10-15 feet - half in water and half on rocks. Lucky he didn't break anything but he was wet and bruised.

    • When I got to Florida this season (seasons instead of years since the years overlap) one of the guys asked what I had done, said I was about twenty yards longer with my driver. Said that I had a different driver which was true but looking back it’s really the shaft that’s been the difference. It’s similar in principle to the Autoflex in that it’s light weight and also light flex. Since most of my clubs are bought used I have difficulty finding senior shafts most of the time and being old and slow that’s what I need. Bought the Callaway driver, for several years I preferred Ping drivers, because they only had a couple of used drivers with senior shafts in my price range and it’s been probably the best I’ve had. Longer and very forgiving, decent distance even on my mishits and almost always in play. Keep in mind that my swing speed is probably under 70mph.
    • Day 17 - First round of the year. It took me about 6 holes to remember how to hit off grass. Short game was lacking, but the round could’ve been much worse. It’s nice that my new “bad” is my old “good.”
    • Yes this was what I was thinking you have two golfers same 5 HC same swing speed 110Mph ...one you changed the driver head to a 10yr old model head but the same loft etc the other you changed shaft ...now if its just 10yr old shaft of the same flex weight etc it would be more so the newer head IMHO ..but if the shaft was changed to softer flex lighter than player was use to then the shaft would be the winner IMHO
