Well, I suppose that like in all sports golfers can go into a slump as well. I've been in a slump for about a month now for who knows what reason.

Question for this thread is: who has been in a terrible slump and how long did it last?

When you say slump I assume scoring. Is it one part of your game that won't come together or general slumpiness.

I have been all year. My index went from an 8 to 11 and my best score this year is an 84 for 18 holes. Have had better 9 hole combined but that is the best that is a true 18 hole score.

Why? I think it is because I can't play as much, termoil at home with the wife, and new irons that I am mishitting and getting punished.

Solution. I don't have one, I just enjoy playing bad golf and looking foward to the off season. I am going to get a series of lessons in the fall.

I have been in a slump for a few weeks. I think I am coming out of it though. I forgot to turn back and turn through. I was quitting at impact and/or not making a good/full torso turn. It took a few hours pounding my 7 iron to get it back together.

I am still in a slump. It's been about 3 weeks now. I thought I was coming out yesterday, shooting 4 over on a new course even though I was striking terribly. I played the same course today and drove the first green for a chip up to 2 inches for a tap in bird and it was all crap after that. I think I ended up with 9 over. Just an ugly ugly day. I think part of it is my grip and part is my tempo and swing plane, and probably my posture is getting messed up. I am a wreck. Well, I got a swing trainer coming so maybe some good habits will be drilled back in.

I can't really afford to dump more money on lessons until my job starts so I'll just keep trucking along in hopes something will click. A bad day on the course is better than a good day at work.

kinda in one now
short game has been great, a few putting issues, but i just switched putters so i can work that out

my issue is off the T.....could be a mix of shaft related and ball positioning issues
i have a new Aura RED Shaft coming, hope this helps a little
i need a few hours on the range, but work has been so fricken busy i could puke (PS - move to Saskatchewan, real estate is HOT right now!)

anyways......my index was a 5.2 at once, now back up
hopefully i get it sorted out soon, as our season will be over in about a month and a half :(

I'm hopefully on the tail end of mine right now. Had a slump for about 4 weeks. Now, one of the days in there, I had a great round, but the others haven't even been around the average round for me.

I was keeping my clubhead more closed than normal on my backswing. I realized it this last weekend before I played in a tournament and struck the ball A LOT better than I have been lately. Also got rid of that ugly push I had with my wedges.

Honestly, it seems that I have about 2 stretches of about 4 weeks during the season where I play great great golf. The times in between I spend trying to figure out what wrong.

Driver: 10.5 Adams Speedline 9032LS with VooDoo XNV6 X-stiff
Fairway Woods: G15 4wood with Serrano 75 X-stiff

A lot of times its worth paying for a lessons here and there. I've had a week where I can't miss a ball and just have that feeling when you take the club back of absolute control and power. And then things fade or you change something and you don't get that feeling. And it ends up being something really small but important. Posture, grip, swaying, etc.

I'll take a lessons (from the same instructor) from time to time to stay sharp and get things corrected. You tend to gravitate towards your habits and since most of us have bad habits on the course, we tend to trend back to them and need a little recalibrating from time to time.

I had a stretch where I was shanking every other shot and not hitting for power and was really frustrated. Couldn't understand why. But I knew the club didn't feel right, the swing didn't feel right and trying to correct a bunch of things led to a soup of bad swinging where everything was wrong. Went to my guy and he straightened a few things out and I was back on track.

Inthecup, My problem was just found. Just got in from my instructor who proceeded to ask me why I was moving my head all over the planet. Why can't you just figure these things out for yourself??? AAARRRRRGGGG!! Even I know that!!!

Every two to three years I get in a slump where I can't hit the ball out of a wet paper bag. After our trip to Orlando in January I had some time where I couldn't get out to play much. Then I got fitted for new irons and I started in a slump that lasted till mid to late spring. The slump wasn't necessarily attributed to the equipment but there were some adjustments. I made some swing changes along the way and it's taken awhile to build some muscle memory but I just had to be patient and work my way out of it and now I'm playing decently. My flat stick also abandoned me during this time which just compounded matters. The putter is usually the one thing that I can count on being consistent. I'm still not where I would like to be but I am a better ball striker and player after every slump and my handicap usually follows. Don't sweat it, stay positive, get some instruction, shoot some video and figure out what's up.

Is shooting badly for 3 holes in a round consider slump ?

I had one yesterday ,the total the worst 3 holes gave me a 10 Over ( +5 on a Par 4 , +3 on a Par 4 and +2 on a Par 3 ) where hit OBs.

At the end i shot 83.

I hope this will not repeat next week where i will be playing in a 2 days tournament. LOL !
What I Play:

My iron play is solid and I'm making improvements in my short game, but I haven't been able to find the fairway off the tee worth a damn lately, and I can't execute the recovery shots I need to get out of the hairy situations my errant drives put me into. It doesn't matter much if I'm hitting my irons well if I'm lying three on my approach.

In my UnderArmour Links stand bag...

Driver: '07 Burner 9.5° (stiff graphite shaft)
Woods: SasQuatch 17° 4-Wood (stiff graphite shaft)
Hybrid: 4DX Ironwood 20° (stiff graphite shaft)Irons/Wedges: Apex Edge 3-PW, GW, SW (stiff shaft); Carnoustie 60° LWPutter: Rossa AGSI+ Corzina...

I find that what throws me into a bad or prolonged slump is trying to hit the ball too hard. I start developing swaying, head movement and all sorts of bad habits. If I can see this happening myself, I can usually straighten things out at the practice tee but if I'm not looking for the "too fast swing" it can go on for months at a time. Golf is a four letter word. The four letter word that would best describe the game was already taken.

there two possible things that can help with a slump. First you can try to track your stats gir, putts, fairways and so on this will take some time but it will show you were your giving away shots the other option which I find helps me is to clear your head and play. When I do this ill hit that one shot that kinda clicks and there it is but it does help that my game is majority feel. If your more of the how does my swing look and is it in the proper position then the first option may be better.

solid advise...and from a 1 hcp

i have been tracking my stats this year, for the first time ever i started the year about an 11hcp down to about a 6-7 now as a result my short game was weak but has improved drastically then i was having issues from the T, as i was not focusing on this last night i got it sorted out track your gamr and it will be clear where you need improvement

I've been in an awful slump that's lasted a couple of months. I had lowered my HC from about 21 to 15 since last summer, and then early this spring got the shanks. Still haven't recovered. Can't hit my drive over 200 anymore unless I've got some wind to help me out. Irons have come back some. Doesn't help that I just moved and haven't gotten out much lately. I have a lesson w/a pro in the area on Friday...hopefully that'll help things.

What I play:

Driver: XLS Hibore 9.5* Fit-On Red (S)
Woods: Tour XPC 16* Graffaloy ProLite (S)
Hybrid: Exotics 3HIrons: Reid Lockhart 3-SWWedge: rac 60*Putter: a crappy $20 Academy putter (but it works!)

I CAME OUT OF IT!!!! shot 2 over 2 days in a row. Ball striking is beautiful even if my putting isn't spectacular. Shots go where I put it. It can be done!
