So just recently (about 2 weeks ago) I bought a new driver to replace my old TM r5 with 10.5 degrees of loft with a regular shaft. My r5 had a really high launch and it spun too much for me. So, I decided to buy the titleist 909 d3. Titleist says it is a "mid launching, low spinning driver", so I thought it will help me launch the ball lower with lower spin. I got the driver with 9.5 degrees of loft, less than 10.5 compared to the r5. I also went from a regular shaft to a stiff with the d3. I thought this for sure will lower the launch. After gaming it for 2 weeks now, I have seen good results with lowering the spin but, it sill launches high! I dont know why, because I have got a stiffer shaft, with less loft but it still goes high. The club itself is amazing. I hit it straight and solid, just wondered why the launch was still high. Any thoughts?

In my Bag-

Does it matter a high launch low spin is the recipe for the maximum distance. Besides it is also easier control because the ball wont roll as much. You should be glad your ballflight is high launch low spin dont to anything to try to change it.

yeah, until it's windy..then have fun w it

i have the same issue
i THOUGHT i figured it out w a new shaft too, so i bought a UST Pro Force V2 w 2.1º torque and 77g weight
it did temporarily fix it, but it stiffened up the driver too much for my swing (which BTW i thought was 115 or so...nope, try 102-106!! hahaha! god im an idiot)

but i am going to work more on ball placement as well, and see if i can find the perfect spot to keep it lower

just ordered THIS , havent had it installed yet , but i think it will be a good happy medium from the V2 and my old Diamana

and to boot, it was cheap
found it on ebay HERE

my olf 905 had a Graphite Design shaft and i loved it
i hope this one works out

Yeah, I was just expecting a lower ballflight with my new driver. I'm not saying I am loosing distance, just expected different results.

did you get on a launch monitor, or get fitted with the new driver? Have you tried to move the ball around in your stance (maybe move it further towards the middle of your stance) or maybe try teeing the ball up a little lower?

Also, did you have the loft measured on the club? There is always a little bit of variance from one 9.5 to another, so maybe you have something closer to 10.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I can relate.

Traded in my driver yesterday for a new one. Went from 10.5 to 9.5. Kept the new driver on the "Neutral" settings and even teed it a tad lower and still was getting great heights. No complaints....but it will be interesting to see how it develops. I looked at the Titleist drivers and was drooling over them.....couldn't part with the $$$$, though. The Comp model was very, very appealing.
