Forgive me if there is a thread for this already, but I couldn't find it if there is

It's Club Championship season again, so let's hear when it is and how you did.

Mine is this coming weekend (8/15-16/09) and is two rounds of stroke play played over the field (you are entered into both gross and net).

Last year I took down gross by five strokes to win my first ever gross club championship. The year before I won by one on the net side while finishing in second on the gross side.

I need to putt well in order to defend my title. There really aren't a whole lot of players that can beat me at my club, and the one that has beat me didn't play in enough tournaments to enter the club championship (you have to play in at least three during the year to qualify), so I've got that going for me

How about you???

I won low net last year but I will not be defending this year. My anniversary falls on 9/13 and although I had a 10% chance at playing (it's a 36 hole event) that went out the window when I found out an Irish Heritage event was going that same week-end. My wifes family takes their heritage very seriously. Game over.

Ours was 2 weeks ago. 2 days flighted stroke play (championship, 1st, and 2nd). Finished 5th (32 people in the championship flight) but honestly had the worst 2 ball striking rounds of the year (shot 75 / 74). Greens were double cut and rolled both days and were lightning fast…couple that with borderline unfair pin placements and you had some major blow-up holes. Too bad I hit the ball like s**t because my putting / short game was actually very good. The guy that won came from 5 strokes down to win by 1. He literally had 2 career days and I couldn't be happier that he won (unless it was me)

None of our top 5 seeds finished in the top 3 (I was the #4 seed). Oh well, there is always next year. Besides, we have our First Annual Flying Lady tournament this Saturday that I plan on winning (way more prestigious then the club championship). 18 holes stroke play from the red tees, easiest pin placements, and lift/clean/place on every shot. The winner gets this fabulous red smoking jacket and a bobble head trophy

That sounds like a fun format and a cool prize to boot! We have a red/white/blue tournament (our course is a 27 hole layout) where we tee from the respective color tees but not play all 18 from the forward tees! Good luck!

finished 3rd gross in the second flight (4 flights total, champ and 1-3) in mine. 2 day stroke play. Played terrible both days at 88-88 (net) but my 14 course handicap pulled me through for the gross payout.

I'm sure it will be a blast. However, it will be serious because there will be lots of money up for grabs. The cool thing is everyone knows and understands the format and has a general idea of what to expect as far as rules are concerned. There are 40+ people signed up so that means there is a minimum of $600 in skin money. It's not flighted, handicapped, or anything else so many of the people that are playing are also "donating" if you know what I mean.

Back to the OP on club championships. Our senior championship was last weekend. Our tournament director said there were a ton of fireworks. 3 people disqualified by the tournament committee and 1 more disqualified himself. Had something to do with "taking putts". The guy who dq'd himself also had the others dq'd. I guess they almost came to blows. Too bad those knuckleheads compromised the integrity of the tournament by playing happy golf. BTW, those 4 guys were also #1-4 seeds.

I won our club championship in a one hole playoff. I was one shot back going into Sunday, the leader blew up with 2 stove legs (7's) and the 3rd and 4th place guys (also in my group) weren't playing real well either so I was not taking risks just trying to make pars. When we get to the club house I think that I have won by three shots only to discover that someone has tied me from 5 shots back.

I made birdie on the playoff hole and the other guy made par. The way the course was playing I never thought anyone would be able to catch the last group. Lucky I didnt get beat by playing it safe on the back nine.

Mine is over the labor day weekend. Im hoping to do well. If i keep my driver under control i think i have a good chance to win.

Ours is flighted (Championship, A, B and C) match play after a stroke play qualifier.

I'm in Flight C. Qualified with the #4 seed and earned a bye (only 11 entrants) in the first round. Second round I won in 19 holes after having a 3 up lead early and then going 2 down after 12. Third round (semi-final) will be played tomorrow morning... I'll update then.

Ours was this past weekend. Two rounds. Handicap and Championship division. I was in a three-way tie for first in the handicap division and lost in the first playoff hole. I placed second, however in the scorecard playoff. Best I've ever done.

Your club does scorecard playoffs for the Club Championship???

That stinks! For each of our flights, if there is a tie in any flight for first, that flight will have a playoff. Handicap strokes are awarded as they fall on the scorecard for a normal round...

Just joined a new club this month and the Club championship is at the end of next month I believe. I am pretty sure it is 36 hole match play, but I will have to check. This will be the first club champ I have played in. There are some serious players at the new club though! Quite a few + handicappers here.

Played the semi-final of our Club Championship this morning... as I said, I was the #4 seed going in... and this match was against the #1 seed. I pretty much handled him.

Early on, I went on a run and was 4 up after 8. I closed out the match (5 & 3) on #15 after a few ugly holes between 11 and 14.

The final is 36 holes to be played next Saturday, August 29th.

The scorecard playoff was for second place. First place was determined by the three-way sudden death playoff.

Ours was back in July and flighted the tournament off of gross scores from day one. No net scores were used.
Round 1 score
I shot 83 on day one and ended up being the last one in the first flight (it was four flights and went championship, 1-3).
Round 2 score
I came through with a 79 on day two but hated to have two triples in there. It was the most greens I have hit in a round this year but since the leader of my flight was five shots ahead to start the day I had too much ground to make up and ended up in the middle of the first flight. Had I shot 84 the first day and been in the second flight I would have won by five.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
