Very interesting.. Has anyone changed their opinion on it?

I bought one and it has been a great help to me.  I carry it in my range bag all the time.

What is the swing thought here? Keep your club as far away from your body as possible?

Perhaps it is not to collapse the arms, or bend the right arm (for a righty) too much.

I'm just curious what it is that will help me to focus on before I buy it or before it gets hereafter I order it.

It's interesting. I went into the backyard just now and one of my issues is contacting ball first and hitting shots fat. When I focused on never letting my left arm break down it forced me to turn more and then on the DS the bottom of my swing arc was well in front of the ball and my club face naturally closed whereas I usually have to manually try to get it closed with my irons lately. Can't wait to try it out.

Just an update... My swing extender arrived yesterday. I have not had time yet to hit balls at the range with it on, but I did make some swings with a 7 iron with the Swing Extender on. First impressions, it certainly does what it's designed to do. If you have it on correctly, it's fairly comfortable and will not allow you to bend your right arm past 90 degrees. I was concerned that I fold my arms very far and upon taking a normal backswing, I was going to 'slam' my right forearm into the swing extender that attached to my bicep. Certainly wasn't the case. I found that my right arm doesn't fold as far as I thought. Without the Swing Extender on, I may go just slightly past 90 degrees, but not much. After a few swings with the SE on, I realized I was still noticing the club head in my left peripheral view. I was still going way past parallel. It seems I am stopping my right arm at 90*, but allowing my wrists to let go and basically drop the club behind me at the top of the backswing. Obviously I need to fix a bunch of stuff. Anyway, I'm playing Saratoga National Golf Club (Saratoga, NY) this afternoon. I'm hoping to get there early to take advantage of the beautiful practice facility and I'll hit balls with the Swing Extender on and report back.

Yeah… the Swing Extender cannot really help you much with:

  • Over-bending your wrists.
  • Loosening your grip at the top of the backswing (more people do this than you might think).
  • Letting your trail elbow go too far around your body.

It's probably a bit of the first and more of the third for you.

Edit: Looked at your Member Swing thread, and yeah… both the first and the third.

Thanks. It wasn't until I made a few swings with the SE on that I realized I was over bending my wrists. Every time I watch myself on video or focus on something specific, I discover something else. I'm going to continue to work with the Swing Extender regularly. It's can't hurt.

I'd worry about that right elbow too. Probably even more than the wrists.

Ok. I did watch that video of you demonstrating keeping that elbow from "tucking behind" your body. It was well explained. I'll practice it.

Hey @MyrtleBeachGolf , slightly off topic but, how was the round? That course is beautiful...I've only played it 3 times because it's out of my price range and they don't take food stamps...lol....

I have a friend who is a friend of the head pro. So we teed off at 3:30 for $65 while everyone else is paying $250. Course was in immaculate condition. Greens were in great shape, but very slow. We played the 4th of 5 tees (championship) which measure over 6700 yards with a slope of 139. I shot 46-43 for an 89, which I'm pretty happy about given the chosen tees. There were a couple par 4s I needed to hit Driver - 3wood to reach or Driver - 4hybrid. There are plenty of areas to get in trouble there. I hit every fairway on the back 9, but had to play out of the sand about 10 times during the round. I would play that course every week for $65, but never for $250.

Yeah it can be a tough course if you don't have length...but every fairway on the back? Damn. Wow. I think I paid $150 twice, and the third round was a gift.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
