Does anybody on here putt with an Anser style putter without a sightline on the flange? Could you speak to the advantages you get from it? Do you use a dot or nothing at all? I ask because I am in the market for a Scotty Cameron and I am considering no sightline on the newport.

I just got done ordering a custom putter and struggled with the same question. My current putter has a line on the flange and I went with a dot for my custom. I decided on the dot due to the fact I've never really felt the line really helped me line anything up. If you think about it the line is so short and it's not right up against the ball on an Anser style putter. I went with the dot due to the cleaner look from above. Good luck with your decision.

My unitized leo came with no sightline and i drilled on my own dot and it dont regret it. looks great

I use a Newport w/out the sightline. Quite honestly, I don't miss it one bit. I actually prefer the cleaner look.

Not sure what you mean by "not right up against the ball" here. The line is in the middle of the clubhead, which is where you want the ball to hit.

I have a line on my putter and use it on every putt to line the clubhead up to where I am aiming.

My Newport doesn't have one. I haven't missed it and I also like the clean top line. Purely a matter of personal preference though.

My Redwood Anser has a sightline and I can't imagine being without it. I don't align the writing or place a line on my ball though so when I putt I'm really focused on the allignment aid on my putter.

It's not against the ball. It's on the flange, and the topline of the club is often without a sight line, providing a small bit of space between the sight line on the flange and the ball.

I personally like the sightline on my Scotty. Tells me right where the sweet spot is and I want to contact the ball right on the sightline.

I putt with an actual Anser without a sighttline, does that count?

I never found a sightline to be beneficial. I know where the center of the club is without one.

Ya I think it would benefit more having a sightline than not having one..

Yea, I have to agree, if there is a sightline I prefer something very small and simple. My Scotty has the little circle on of the blade, which works great. I prefer that to the line on the flange, that seems to take my eyes off of the ball/blade and puts it on the back of the putter.

I need all the help I can get putting. I just bought a button back Newport (with no sight line) and sent it to the custom shop to get a flange sight line and a sight dot added to it.

I'm lost without a sight line, I've never had a putter that didn't have one.

Thanks for all the information and opinions. Good stuff.

the line on the flange, that seems to take my eyes off of the ball/blade and puts it on the back of the putter.

This is partly the reason I am considering a putter with only a dot or nothing at all. My problem comes more in when I move the putter away from the ball, my eyes try to follow it. Plus I square the putter to my intended line by looking at the face of the putter, not the sight line anyway.

I do the same. I was afraid when I got my putter (it only has a dot), but I get use to it easily, and I like it much better - it has a cleaner look, and it is easier to align.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
