Hi all,

Just thought I'd post up a more recent version of my swing and see what people think. Any comments/criticisms are welcome. All three shots were fairly well struck. The 3rd was slightly thin if I remember correctly.

Cheers,
James

The video is set to private. (Not that I have any ability to analyze the swing, just thought I would let you know.)

From what I could tell, it looks real solid. What is your typical miss? I'm trying to put this swing together with a 17+hcp and it doesn't fit.

Thanks mate. Mmm, you wouldn't think so till you see my short game, and that's where my attention is focused at the moment. I haven't handed in a card in a while, so that largely explains why its stuck where it is.

Typical miss depends on the day. If I'm swinging well then its usually a block. On a bad swinging day I can lunge at the ball and hit pulls/slices cause I get on top of it and leave the blade open.

ya looks better than most 17s. hell looks better than most single digits i play with. but full swing is not the most important thing i guess. only thing i could say is it is too long for my taste, and if you were a student i would shorten it up considerably, for consistency and control. theres a certain place where if i pause it it looks like a really really sound backswing, and then it keeps going to your real backswing and its way longer. just a thought

Posted
yep, shorten that swing and itll help the block. when your hands have longer to go with the club they get stuck tryin to catch up to your hips and leave it out to the right. try to just get the club to parallel where you can't see it out of your left periphreal vision. and the pull slice is just the opposite. u try to go at it hard so your hands get ahead. usually try to keep really goin after a ball down to once a round or so. hope this helps a little

Haha, thats the exact thing i thought and as i was reading down before putting my post you said the exact same thing i was going to post. Unreal. Anyways from the looks of your swing it is pretty solid, the only thing i could see is your club face may be a little closed at impact resulting in a hook or a pull hook. I would have to see a side view to be sure. But does not look bad at all and was thinking you must not be that good at driving or putting if your a 17 handicapp. Keep up the good work and may all your balls fly straight.

I'm going to give you a little advice. There's a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball.

Nice swing. Your take back on your back swing is a little inside producing a bit of a flatter swing. Upon impact I can see that your shoulders/hands move a little quicker, producing outside in pull/ pull slice effect. At impact it seems your hips are shoulders are aligned.

I have a similar problem with my swing, i'm slowly fixing my downswing to come down flatter for a inside out swing. Film a side view of you swing

Overall great swing bro, i can tell you can really wack the ball far!

OK that makes sense. The only thing I saw is that your right elbow gets trapped behind your hip coming down into impact. Same swing fault causes both the block and the hook- flip your hands through to catch up= hook/ keep hands passive=block.

There's plenty of drills on youtube you can search to find one that works for you. Good luck-

Great swing James. To reiterate some things is2linda and a few others touched on. . . The good: Smooth swing, great tempo and no extraneous movements, maintains spine angle. I really like the posture in the first swing and the position of the hands underneath the chin, in the last two swings you seem more bent over from the waist. The meh. . .not-so-good: 1. For an iron, the swing is a bit too long....past parallel? 2. On your takeaway the club travels inside the toe line too quickly and is no longer in front of your chest as the it reaches waist height. A bit too much roll of the forearms perhaps. As you come down into impact the club will get stuck. This is what causes your block and snap hook as your hands will eithersave it, over compensate or hit the block/push. I like a flatter swing though. It seems a flatter swing is what they are teaching nowadays. I admire your courage to put your swing online and have it scrutinized. . . it says a lot about your attitude towards golf. Keep up the good work James. Of the 3, which was your best swing? My guess would be the first. Hey, I'm a 23 handicap...what do I know? laughs.

Is it me, or does your right leg straighten up on the backswing?

    • Day 37, June 10.  Today was primarily WFH, so I had several practice sessions (indoors, off a mat, into the net).  At least one each of U, 9, and 6-iron full swings with the usual priority.   I also tried a few times a putting type stroke with my 4H, as something I should probably learn how to hit (and what it does), but the mechanical shot at home off a mat doesn't tell me much of what it's doing.  That's something I should probably try on a real green, not during a round until I've tried it.
    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
