I switched out my clubs this winter.

As a preview, I got a hybrid last year from a scramble coupon.

It's a Magique M3 I.brid, 21º with an Adila Gamer Hybrid R-flex graphite shaft, midkick. The shaft is similar to what I ended up with on my new driver and fairway woods.

Last fall and this spring, I tried this M3 as a substitute for a 5 wood.

I started out sweeping it like a wood, and got nowhere. Then, a pro suggested I hit it like an iron, and I got some OK hits, plus some misses. It works OK out of medium-fluff rough, but off fairway or the tee I spray it all over. When I catch it solid, it goes maybe 175 yds.

I compared it with the 5 wood I now carry, and found the 5-wood much more reliable. I can hit the 5-wood about 200 yds. on a decent shot. (The 4-wood was my super-club back during the days of persimmon-headed woods).

I tried a Diablo 3H which got the ball up too high. I tried a Ping G10, but it felt funny.

Has anyone else had trouble with hybrids, or am I the only one?

I did but now I feel pretty confident with it from the fairway or a good lie, but still have a little bit of trouble hitting it from bad lies in the rough.

You just need to go practice with it. At least for me I wasn't used to it and then when I practiced with it I started improving pretty quickly.

I had a problem with the PING hybrids...hated them when they first came out.

Bought the NICKENT ironwood you seen in my signature and couldnt be happier. It is the easiest club to hit in my bag for shots out past 200 yards.

I would also suggest the Bobby Jones hybrid, another one that I could hit very well from the fairway.

love mine... I can go both ways... nice high trajectory w/ soft landing... only minus is if it is windy I would rather have a 3-iron.

I've had the Bobby Jones Hybrids for a couple of years but just traded them in on a couple of Ping G15's. The jones are great, but I started heeling balls low and left way too frequently with them. I know it's me and not the clubs but I completely lost confidence with them and thought a change might help. So far, I'm hitting the Pings beautifully. they have a great feel and sound. I'm getting 180 yds out of the 23* (4) hitting them very accurately and my misses with them have been slight.

The Jones hybrids were outstanding out of the rough and fairway bunkers. I Could chip pretty well with them too. I tended to spry them a bit off the tee and I had the aforementioned heeling problem.

I have a Nike Sumo Hybrid and I hit it ok, but i seem to pull it left more times than not. I have a X flex shaft in it and I still pull it..maybe I just need more practice lol

I know I feel I have to help get the ball airborne so I dip my right shoulder causing a mis-hit(Im right-handed). My son gave me a good tip to take a little off my swing and pay attention to my shoulder dip on my downswing. When I do that,I hit the hybrids real well, but still need to be reminded at times. Hope this helps.

Love the hybrids.

I didn't like them at first because I failed to set up close to them like irons and hit down on them. Once I began addressing and hitting them exactly like my irons things settled down nicely.

I wouldn't trade them outa the bag....unless it was for an improved hybrid.

My father is like you...he hits his 5 wood so much better than any hybrid he's tried.

I think that is the key, address the hybrids just as you would a long iron. Dont try to sweep the ball off the turf like a fairway wood.

I used a #4 hybrid for the first time on the course this weekend. I topped a couple of shots but got used to the hybrid. I ended up hitting nice shots with it and felt more confident with it. I love that it fills the gap between my woods and 4 iron.

Is a Wilson Staff Fybrid a hybrid or a short shafted fairway wood?

I like it, but I feel more comfortable on the tee with a 2-iron in my hand. The 19.5* Fybrid goes about the same yardage, but a little higher so I'd be more likely to attack a par 5 with the "hybrid".

My story is pretty much the same, I tried several different Callaway, Mizuno and Cobra hybrids and just did not hit them well, I was never able to pin point why. I have gone back to a 5 wood and 3 iron, my 5 wood is one of my most consistent clubs in the bag.
