"Dont stand on one foot"

anyone ever heard this before?

On the 2nd hole yesterday. Left a birdie putt about 6 inches short. Decide to just tap in. In order to avoid someone else's line i stand on one foot to tap it in .

As we are walking off the green, a guy i am playing with says, "Son you shouldn't ever put with one foot, it creates an identation in the green"

I have been playing golf for 25+ years, consider my golf etiquette to be as good as any, and have never heard this.

before anyone says it, i don't believe this guy was trying to be a jerk. I think he really meant to be helpful.

Considering the vast majority of golfers stand on one foot while retrieving the ball out of the cup, I wouldn't worry about it.

im gonna take about 2 hours longer than normal when playing next then as ill be spending about 5 minutes extra on each hole trying to get the ball out the hole with my club

That's why I carry a shoe-mark repair tool in my bag with the pitch-mark tools. I got sick of ripping the ass out of my pants picking the ball up. Works like a charm.

I try not to stand on one foot while I'm waiting for others to putt on the green, but that's about as far as it goes. Good advice, but give me a break...

Pretty ridiculous. Whenever you walk across the green, both feet wont always be on the ground. Dont listen to him.

I imagine what the guy was referring to is that when putting a tap in putt on one foot you will naturally be standing fairly close to the hole when you do so, and also naturally you'll stand on that one foot just a bit longer than you normally would in the act of retrieving your ball or walking on the green. That means your full weight will be on that one foot compressing the green in a spot right beside the cup.

This has never really ocurred to me as a problem, but I can see, especially on a soft green, where doing this could definitely leave a healthy foot print in about the worst place possible on the putting green.

I can see his point, but it doesn't work. You can't be on the green without putting the weight on only one foot at some point. Especially around the cup where most people stand on one foot to get the ball up. I try not to stand on one foot while waiting for others, but that's as far as I go.

I've never heard this tidbit of wisdom in 40+ years of golf.

You don't by chance weigh 350 lbs ?
