what happend on the 18th hole to you?

I´m coming closer to my first even par round - couple days ago i was +1 on the 18th Par 5, just to hit my 2nd shot dead behind a tree...

I´m probably a little bit of a choker so when i approach the 18th somewhere next year even, i most likely will be quite "nervous" - since this is one of THE BIG MOMENTS as a golfer you worked all these years for.

For those of you who already had this pleasure - share your story!

i remember a few times this year being even. i remember my first time being under par. i was 3 under on the 18th tee and at that point i said to myself, at this point if i dont tripple this hole i will be happy. i parred it. it was a 455 yard par 4 with a green 50 yards long with 3 tears and cross ridges.

this year i have been playing at a very very hard course. the rating is 74.5 and the slope is in the 130s. i have shot even a few times and the finnishing hole is a par 5 that i have alot of trouble with because the green is surrounded with bunkers for about 50 yards. i have hit into those bunkers trying to eagle the last hole to go to 2 under but i never make it.
the times i shoot even are the times i play the course not my game. i played the shot that needed to be hit like one time i went 3 wood, nine iron (laying up to the bunkers), wedge and 2 putted for even par. instead of going 3 wood, 3,4,5 iron in depending to the pin placement. the hole is a dogleg par 5 with a march about 270, the fairway is sloped from left to right so you have a pretty bad sidehill lie. hitting the ball cleanly is very hard, and there is trouble left and right (ob), a clubhouse long, and bunker short. there is no bail out room.

another time i was even on the 18th tee and went 3 wood into a fairwaybunker that was 225 from the green, the pin was below a ridge in the middle. so i decidied i was sick of shooting even and wanted to go for glory. i hit 6 iron to about 30 feet, yipped the sh*t out of the first putt and left myself a 10 footer for birdie which i proceded to lip out. after that round i have focused on putting alot. that whole time i was thinking, i cant believe i hit my 6 iron that far out of a bunker but on the tee i was think about how i lipped out the birdie putt on the last hole

i recently had my first school round where i shot even. i had a 420 yard par 4 as a finnisher, i sliced my drive into the rough about 168 out (terrible drive i know) the wind was severly into my face so i hit a punch draw 8 iron on the green and two putted for my par. all i could think about on the tee was that i needed to hit a good drive so i could birdie the last hole, then after i hit that drive i thought it was over so i started to think about the two 5 footers i missed on 3 and 5

next time you get to that point play the course off the tee and if its a par 5 for your second shot aswell, then take your time and step off your distance. look at the middle of the green and the pin then guess about how many yards off the pin is playing. once you have this information attack the pin and try to birdie it. if you miss hit a shot at the pin its a 20 footer, if you miss hit a shot at the middle of the green it could end up on the wrong side of the green
i would say i generally think play the course off the tee and attack the pin on your approach. i always think of trying to make birde

Closest I've ever been was even after 9 holes.

I went on to shoot 4 over on the back. (Persimmon Hill Golf Club, 2000)

All you can really do is just focus on each shot and try to enjoy the moment....don't let things get tense. Easier said than done.

On my home course, I'm obviously trying to go as low as possible....but I moderate things and know that for me, at this time, 42 per side is about my "personal" par. I make allowances that certain holes are just going to be bogeys holes and the others are par or even birdie holes.

Never fails: I'm even par, or even a few under, at the 18th tee, and my alarm clock goes off and I wake up.

Man, you beat me to it. As soon as I saw the title of this thread I planned on making the same comment about waking up from a dream. Earlier this year I shot 41 on the front side of my home course. On the back I started double - double and then started making pars. Then I made a birdie and at the next hole had a six footer for another. If I make it to get to two over, and if I par in, I would shoot 38 and break 80 for the first time - ever. Considering I started the front nine with a double and then ran off a bunch of pars it wasn't that far fetched. I missed the six footer, but oddly enough, I wasn't thinking about what it meant to my round. Honestly, I am just that bad of a putter. The number of putts I average for nine holes is horrifying. Still, I shot 41 on the back for an 82 which is my lowest score since returning to the game last year after roughly six years of being unable to play. It was 10 over for 18 holes which was thrilling for me. Had I been able to hit a green on 10 and 11 from less than 100 yards I could have shot my lowest round. The touch shots are taking the most time to come back after not playing for all that time. It was a lot o fun to be in that position. Someday soon, I plan on coming to the 18th needing to make par and shoot even for 18 holes. Instead, I'm going to make birdie and break down that barrier.

Don't think I've ever been even par after 17. I was once 1 under after 17, hooked my tee shot OB and ended with a triple for a 2 over par 74 total.

I have never been even after 18... but I was +1 earlier this year and I birdied 18 for even par. It helped that I missed a 5 footer and what I though was my chance on 17... so on 18 I just figured I would shoot +1 until I made a nice 18 footer. ... luckily for me, even par wasn't really on my mind I was simply going about my business.

I shot even in a tournament this year. I had 5 birdies on the day (missed two other short birdie putts) but had two doubles and one bogey. On 18 I hit a great drive and the hole ( Willowbrook Country Club) had water short and right of the green. I only had about 100 yds. in but I played to the left of the green and two putted. I thought I handled myself pretty well.

I don't know but i hope find out one day. The first time I had chance to break 80 all I needed was a bogey on 18 to do it...so I hit the drive into the next county...and proceeded to post an 81. Cough cough...

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
