I raced Radio Controlled Oval cars for about 10 years before quitting back in 2006. Actually racked up 3 national championships and roughly 10 sponsors including a company called Customworks owned by Nascar driver Tony Stewart. Fun while it lasted but no money involved so I racked up way too much debt.
Below is video from my old home track in Akron, OH. Ran tracks everywhere from Blountville TN to Sandhills & Chatham NC.

I'm also a musician, started playing bass in a "for fun" local band recently, something I haven't done in a very long time. Also enjoy woodworking; I am working on a Stickley dining room table right now.

I am a card magician, and I often spend hours in my back yard with a mower making it look like a minny golf course (I dont get to play as much as I need to).

  • 2 weeks later...
over the past summer Golf was pretty much my only hobby. As fall has arrived, I have season tickets to the Chicago Bears, and we tailgate so that takes up 8 weekends a year. After the football season is over, I snowmobile up in Eagle River, WI. and I hope to get out and snow ski some this winter since I have taken a few years off the slopes, will depend on how the snow is in the midwest.

In previous summers I have owned a sports car, or motorcycle, or both. However, for the last two (since getting married) I have not. Hoping that changes next summer.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I've been an avid fisherman for 20+ years. I have a feeling though that now that I've got the golf bug my fishing is going to take a back seat to that.

As far as fishing goes I've been into the following:

Started out competitive bass fishing when I was in my late teens. Fished in several pro/am tournaments around california/arizona/nevada. Unfortunately due to school I had to put the bass fishing on hold. Took allot going out to lakes 2 weekends prior to a tournament to prefish then the actual tournament. Difficult on a 18-19 yo's budget.

After I finished college I moved onto deep sea fishing. Was lucky to know several people in the fishing industry so I opportunities to do some long range trips 5-16 day fishing trips out of san diego, ca. Its amazing how at 21-22 I could afford not only the gear, trips itself, and the time off. Now that I'm 33 there is no way I could get away on a 10 day trip. Glad I had the opportunity when I did though.

A few years back I got pretty heavy into the kayak fishing thing. This allowed me the opportunity to get some exercise and get out more often. Always nice to be able to get out for a few hours after work and just paddle around and relax. Its amazing how therapeutic a day on the ocean can be when work stresses you out.

I am a card magician, and I often spend hours in my back yard with a mower making it look like a minny golf course (I dont get to play as much as I need to).

Nice, I spent some time myself with cards and coins, but it has been quite some time since I last did any performing for an audience.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
